I think it's actually more about personality than the physical aspect.

Look at the stereotypes. Muscular guys are supposedly more assertive and confident so women are attracted to them in a sexual sense. Skinny guys are stereotypically more meek but intelligent, and more successful in their careers, so women can control them from cheating and take their money in a long term relationship.

It's more than just women stereotyping men, I think lots of men act in a way that conforms to the social expectations of their appearance.

But not everyone fits stereotypes. Look at me, I'm a skinny guy and I don't need a bitch or feed a bitch.

Man...I hate when people try and argue that looks arent important. It just pisses me off.

I know thats not the point you're making, i just had to get that out of my system first. The truth is that physical appearance is -very- important when it comes to dating.

Guys of course, are a lot more superficial about it.

Women on the other hand like the muscular guys for two reasons:

1) You're right, it directly affects personality. It makes them more confident/assertive/all that.

2) Unless they're some super dyke or body builder or something along those lines...I think every woman, regardless of age/race/culture all want the same thing in a man. And thats to feel safe.

Guys have their reasons for going after the attractive girls too. I dont really understand exactly what we look for nowadays though. In the olden days, there was nothing sexier then a big full bodied 300 pound woman. I guess partially because it meant she was well off, because half of the world was starving. The other half being that she was supposedly strong in childbirth.

Nowadays, we want the exact opposite. We've been trained by our culture. We associate the supermodel look with sex. The super slutty girls in the club are a lot more likely to put out then the girl in the corner with the reading glasses and the few extra pounds, so we hone our senses to look specifically for those girls. After all, biologically...we're just here to spread our seed.

Yea, thats why i started working out back in march....its just a bonus...plus i have extra time, so with my free time i can puta bit of effort in to look good not just for girls, but for exercise and my own health ya know???

Plus girls do judge guys by first glances like a mutta fucka sometimes, thats why u gotta make a dank impression at first or u might be denied shortly from the start....

I'd say it's probably the other way round. The way you act will eventually have an effect on how you look. If you're a bookworm who spends most of his day on the computer and reading you're not going to be as muscular or heavily built as someone who does sports most of the day.

Yoyo, do you have any experience with statistics?

It should very well be pointed out that with the proper sampling technique and a fairly large sample size such as used by this sample, one can make astonishingly accurate inferences on the population. So, a study like this can very well tell us that women prefer muscular guys.

Plus, it never said that ALL women like that. It is the majority of women, which can be as small as 51%. But I have to admit I only skimmed the article.

Not necessarily true. I find weath unnattractive, probably because I'm into "rough" guys or something. I used to date a guy about a year ago. Everything was going good 'til he invited me over and I saw his huge, luxurious house/other things that lower class people can't afford. It was a turn off.

i started lifting almost everyday about 6 months ago and i can definitely admit that i have gotten more attention as i have started to bulk up from my 145 to my now 165 frame. especially now because its summer and i go to the pool whenever i can. i feel better about myself too. i used to be totally against that macho guy look, but i think i was just jealous. o well, nothing wrong with being healthier and happier.
