But there are other sources of transmission beyond sex that cause it. These activities are prevalent in inner city environments. Hold tight, here comes another credible source.

On the subject of this whole HIV transmission thing, don't forget that there are a whole host of abnormal factors that increase the risk of transmission (like if the skin is broken; that's why the rate of transmission from rape is so comparatively high, or in anal sex, since the rectal wall is adapted for maximum absorption), and that doing something with a 1-in-500 chance 10 times gives you a higher probability than 10-in-500 of it happening. The rate of female-to-male transmission in a normal sexual encounter really is fairly low, but you'd have to be an idiot to say "okay, there's a 1-in-500 chance this will kill me so I might as well do it".

The statistics like the ones above aren't widely publicised because people are idiots; it's better for people to think that you'll get it every time and take precautions than for them to think that it's unlikely. Imagine how many people would dispense with protection if they heard that 1-in-500 statistic; worse, imagine how many HIV+ people would think it was okay to sleep around without protection because the other partner 'probably wouldn't get it anyway'.

As for the safe sex debate, just a couple of points. Of those 35+ women, possibly only 5 was I wearing a condom, interestlingly enough mainly in the "serious" relationships. The ONLY disease I ever caught was crabs (technically not even an STD), so yeah you can fuck strangers and it isn't a DEFINITE that you will catch something. One example is one chick called me weeks later to let me know she had Trichominiasis. 2 other guys DID contract it to my knowledge, yet I was clean. So there is a lot more validity in the argument of you have "a 1/X chance of catching something" vs. you ABSOLUTELY WILL......at least from my experience.

Lastly, I will vouch for Getoffmylawn's pussy count because of the cocaine reference. If he was dealing or active with powder for any time at all, he could almost have the pick of the litter (or the gutter, depending on your point of view). Alright, fair enough. I guess we have different frames of reference. Personally, I find 6 months to be a pretty long time, and a year to be an extremely long time, and not just in regards to relationship durations but in general.
