Ok... I now HATE this question.
It used to be something I didn't mind, but as on tonight, I HATE it.
I was talking to this one girl I know on AIM about random stuff, and out of no where she asked if I cared if she told me something mildly secretive (I'm a guy, of course you know the answer)... Well next thing I know she says that she has "always liked me and always will." So now I'm bracing for a suicidal or depression conversation, but NoOOOo... she then asks if I ever had any feelings for her... and being the moron I am, I told her I used to. She then proceeded to tell me that we need to get together and that we should go out. I agree for the fact that I am in a sexual slump, and figure, HEY! FREE SEX! well, she decided to call because she was getting booted from the computer because her friend wanted to look something up. about this time, Wings of Marie starts playing (i was listening to 10,000 Days on Windows Media Player) so I look over to my computer and I get side-tracked staring at the visualization thing. After 30 seconds of the visualizations and the music, my brain went *PTHHHPTPTPTPT!* (mouth/tounge farting noise) and started drooling on itself... she then asked what I was thinking... after the end of the song I finally realized what she asked and was able to get out "Uhhhhh..... nnnnothing." She then started yelling at me about how I should never lie to her and it is physically impossible to not be thinking. After her 10 minutes of bitching into the phone while I had it laying on my bed and I was up getting some food, I came back and picked it up, she still hadn't noticed I left the phone.... well all i heard was "BLAHBLAHBLAHTYBLAH! NOW I WILL NEVER SLEEP WITH YOU BECAUSE YOU LIED TO ME!" I stuttered and tried to say something with a mouthful of peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and she then slammed the phone down....
damn... all because of this damned question, i now won't be getting laid tomorrow. any other question, i could've said anything and she wouldn't care, but she can't believe that a guy can be absolutely content and be thinking about nothing.
fuck.
I know the last time I was asked that, I said I was thinking about the girls eyes and how beautiful they were, which almost instantly turned into some of the best sex I have ever had.
How could this question come back and bite me in the ass after being such a good friend?
Do any of you have any bad experiences with this question?

Are you saying that a female who's mind goes a bit blank, won't repeat some dumb thing that she's seen in a vid? People are always repeating something like that to be cool or ironic. Is there some sort of taboo or attacks of good sense that stop them from saying vid-things inappropriately in real relationship situations?
Gosh (gawrsh!) if that girl had decent interpersonal skills she'd have tried to tease your thoughts out of you. I can just imagine you or some friend of hers walking up to her on the street & asking her, "What are you thinking?".

I think that it's a wonderful question. It's one of my favourites because there are always a million things on my mind; it comes as a surprise when others have nothing to say to such a basic question. I usually get asked it at least once a day.
That is a bad experience. I suggest explaining that you were in a daze from the mixture of information and music.

Stuff just 'in yer head' is way diff than hooking it up to your voice through your 'assembly area' for speaking. If she'd provided a few cues for conversation instead? Who knows what he might have been able to slide out?
If she'd been more oblique & indirect, stuff would have likely popped up in the flow of talk.
For instance: look at your typical schoolie put on the spot by, "How was school"? or "What did you learn?"
The proper answers, (tested millions of times)? "'Ok" & "Nothin'". :p
When you put someone on the spot or jump down their throat? Don't expect easy conversation.

I, like Euda, suggest just telling her the truth. Tell her you were literally overwhelmed b/c of the visualizer, just general information overload, and that's why you said "nothing". It IS literally impossible to be thinking about nothing, as long as you're conscious that is. And that's just if you're talking about the standard concept of "thinking"; you're always thinking subconsciously, even when you're asleep or knocked out.
For instance, you were probably analyzing some pattern in the visualization, or something along those lines at that point in time. You may not have been thinking a thought quite as discrete as "What am I going to have for dinner?", but you were definitely thinking about something and I understand her point, though not the whole freaking out part.
