How would you change the US for the Better?
I was thinking about it today while soveling some cement and listening to a crappy radio station, I want to change the world or at least know how to change it for the better. Cliche much? Topics of interest, in no particular order, would include...
Abortion,
The Federal Deficit,
Lowering the Drinking Age to 18 (Sell your soul to the government and be able to buy a beer that same night!),
Gay Marriage,
Road Safety/Transport Efficiency,
Revamping the Education System,
Decriminalization of Narcotics and the Regulation thereof,
Media Censorship,
Gun Control,
Breaking from the Fossil Fuel adiction,
Poverty/Welfare,
Vetrans Affairs,
... Umm thats all I can think of right now, so I'm gonna post and see if the thread survives. I'd love to hear responses and I'm sorry about any spelling or grammatical errors, I'm not on firefox :/

Drastically downsize the government and return to government obeyance of the limits set forth in the Constitution. That would solve 99% of our problems.

Yeah, I would like to keep the govenment as small as possible with power in the peoples hands but for alot of things to work like gun and drug control the government would have to be heavly involved.

Re: How would you change the US for the Better?
No cars. There would be a centralized system of monorails. This would do a bunch of good stuff:
No accidents, because it would be run by computers.
Criminals couldn't flee by car, because the grid would just stop them.
No gasoline, energy would come directly from power plants, therefore more efficient.
Economy would speed up.
It would be friggin awesome.
I know it wouldn't do that much, but I'd really like to ride a monorail to work.
Oh, and there would be a limit on how much energy a single household could use, depending on how many people they had.

Those things don't work. A perfect example of areas where government control needs to be abolished.

Our education system needs to be revamped.
So does our court system. People shouldn't be able to get away with crimes, and get slaps on the wrist.
Also, the Electoral College needs to go.

Re: How would you change the US for the Better?
Eliminate laws that can only be broken by the offence of another law, such as the 3 strikes bill, fleeing and eluding, assault of an officier. Eliminate most drug laws, the only law for drugs will be unreported drug importing, I don't mind if you sale drugs, I just want the government to be able to tax it. increase internal affairs so we might be able to get rid of all these crocked cops. The biggest troble with the deficet is that we really don't have many resources, we need to increase our productions of goods to other countries, So we need to put more people to work, maybe that would get rid of welfare. People who don't know how to use guns shouldn't be allowed to have one, so gun licence will be given out like driver's license, they will be tested. Go ahead and allow gay marriage, I mean just because they see it as marriage doesn't mean god will see it as a marriage, so let them believe they are actually married. Go ahead and allow abortion, I mean after all the fetus will automatically get into heaven so it really is a win win.

Mandatory accounting with emphasis on depreciation. Make sure the kids understand planned obsolescence is going on in cars. And now computers too.
I have an accounting book that costs $70 and claims to be 1st year accounting. It doesn't mention depreciation until page 624. Accounting is so simple everything most people need to know can be covered in one semester.

Take half the defense budget and put it in education.

Pull out of Iraq and any other positions we have around the world.
Focus some of that excess military on the border. That would fix it. Shoot every illegal crossing the border. They wouldn't even try crossing anymore.
The US needs to be more neutral in this changing world.
