End of Warfare (as we know it)?
So, over the past 60 years, warfare has changed drastically. Vietnam, Korea, Iraq (Bush1 and Bush2), Somalia, Israel, and other conflicts have all been in-between a well equipped, well trained force with an abundance of resources against a force with ill equipped soldiers using guerrilla warfare tactics.
So has the Allies vs Axis style of warfare ended? Where two countries or two teams of countries face off, as seen in WWI, WWII, and the other various European wars.
What do you think? Is guerrilla warfare the new warfare? Technology versus hit-and-run tactics?

Re: End of Warfare (as we know it)?
Im not too sure about all that. But as long as their will be humans, there will always be war.
Gurrela warfare does seem to be the new kind of warfare. However, their armys are not as tight, secure, or populated to fight an all out war like countries did before. Gurrela warfare is a good war tatic to use when one is outnumbered.
Our relations with many contries are not good or up in the air. So who knows, we will always have some kind of enemy.

Re: End of Warfare (as we know it)?
I think this is exactly what war is going to remain, at least for the forseeable future. No established country is stupid enough to go to war with another established country, and none of the backwards tribal people have figured out that all it takes is a few guys and some bombs to completely immobilize an entire country's military.

Re: End of Warfare (as we know it)?
I don't think the days of two sides standing off against each other are over whatsoever, we're just not seeing it now. Should the political climate lean that way, I don't doubt that we could see another war of this type. Guerrilla warfare to me just seems to be the most efficient method of fighting back a small unarmed opposition has, especially wqhile on the defensive, and we certainly don't see the world's main aggressor (the USofA) picking fights with anyone of any real military power at the moment. The mobility and elusiveness of this type of opposition make it hard to predict when or where the next attack will come, giving them the element of surprise, which is a benefit when launching a strike of any type. The hit and run style of a guerrilla resistance make it easier to successfully pick away at the edges of a large force while maintaining relatively low losses. This is simply the best option they have for fighting back with what they've got...

Re: End of Warfare (as we know it)?
This type of warfare has always existed. When two powers clash, and one is extreamly underhanded to for formations, what other choice does he have other than resorting to Guerilla tactics?
Also, formations dont mean much at this moment, as they can easily be destroyed by air-raids. And neither can any fortifications hold anything against a stronger power who is willing to use real force.
Any city can be nuked (but only if there is no possibility of nuclear retaliation).
Troops for countries like USA, Russia, China, India, Pakistan are expendible. But being seen as the "bad guy" by their own people is not (except maybe China).
How can a group an ill equipied, out numbered troops fight against an army 10-20 times bigger, and who are 40-60 year ahead in equipment and logistics?
They cant for a formation (even if number allowed), because they would simply be bombed. As we can see in the current war in Iraq and Afghanistan (and the soviet version of it too). When was the last time two armies clashed? Using "modern" military formation through the war?
The Iran-Iraq war.
Remember what happened in the 6-day war??
Any army that war out numbered, what was it 6-1 (I cant remember exactly), and stratigic bombing raids crippled Isreal's enimies.

Re: End of Warfare (as we know it)?
I think we are running out of room for all out war, so technology and guerilla warfare are just two ways of fighting on small scales, with rather large results. We can't rust roll through a city very well anymore, nor can we meet at opposite ends ofa large field and take turns with volleys of shots or club each other. I think soon we may have to worry more about individuals in an army then an army as a whole. Soon marines and such will have crazy ass exo suits that give em crazy ass strength and shit, then Japan will unleash their robots. Dizamn, I can't wait for teh next war. Oh shit, thats a terrible thing to say... Oh well.

Re: End of Warfare (as we know it)?
Guerrilla warfare has been around as long as man.
The modern warfare that I'd be worried about is long distance bombing and nukes. I think that will eventually lead to the 'end of the world' (as we know it), as eventually someone will stop simply threatening with nukes...

Re: End of Warfare (as we know it)?
Why the end of the world? It doesn't make sense for two nuclear powers to fight, but it would be cool to see a nuclear power clean out an entire ethnic group. You can get fairly clean, cheap nukes that can wipe out an entire city, and thanks to the cold war and militarp-corporate policies, we have more nukes than ever before. If you encounter guerillas, pull your men out of the area and wash, rinse, repeat. Mongol tactics, on a global scale.
