So about 3 weeks ago, i needed money for a used car. So i go into my account to take out the necessary 800 bucks for this little hoopdie.

Let me know if i'm doing the math wrong here

I had 2000 dollars in the account

I took out 800 dollars

Now i have 2800 dollars...

Someone fucked up.

How long will it take for the bank to correct their error?

I'm being smart about this and i'm not touching the money.. Its in savings so i'm not going to touch it anyway unless i NEED something drastically.

I don't know about your country, but here in germany i believe you are required to tell the bank... don't know what happens if you don't even if you don't touch the money.

Go back to the exact same ATM and do everything exactly as you did.

I took the money out of the bank from a teller. The ATM limits are only about 680 dollars per day. I dunno why.

But apparantly the systems were down when i took the money out, so they had to do everything by hand.

I know in the military if they overpay you or anything, once they realize (which they always seem to), they stop paying you until they get what's thiers. Regardless of whether you need the $ or what. I'd either tell them or liquidate the account... The former if you want to use the bank long term. Then again, they may never notice. Once the keys are pressed, I'm not sure if there is too much review. Then again, they should notice a 1600$ discrepancy, no? Any bank-tellers here?

I heard a news story a few years ago about a bank here in Australia that accidentally deposited $1.25 Million into the wrong account. The man was allowed to hang on to the money and the bank had to pay the 1.25 into the account it was destined for.

i figure i'll just pull the slight more interest on it.. Hell, they can't take my interest away can they?

Don't touch it. They'll most likely figure it out in a week and remove the money.

If they don't, leave it alone for 30 days. Then go to a customer service rep, and ask what their policies are for bank errors in your favor, and in the bank's favor.

Piotr: I have been waiting to hear what happens next. Has the bank taken any action yet? I really hope you get the extra $800.

Just don't touch it for a while, you can't get in trouble for it if it was the banks fault, just deny that you knew it was there.
