Default The Soft Delete

This was briefly mention in one of the threads about the spam attacks, but I feel that it merits its own thread - especially in light of the continued attacks we're now experiencing.

Jeff, can we please have the ability to have a hard delete? Where the post goes away from even our view?

As Kate, I think it was, mentioned, it is quite the eye sore to look at. And, even more important, during attacks such as these, it's sometimes hard to see the one or two legit thread amid all the soft deleted ones.

I think there might be a way to "hide" soft deleted threads. Let me look into that, actually.

Edit: Apparently I was wrong. In the mean time, if anyone wants their forum cleared from mass soft-deletions, let me know.

Could you please clear SG. BLTC wasn't hit nearly as bad and everythings off the first 2 pages by now I think.

Thanks.

For me they're like 'battle scars'.
Sure if there were ridiculous amounts of them in a slow paced forum I'd want them gone, but as it is they're pretty much out of the way.

And,some posters where bitching me out saying I was 'uselss' and 'didnt do anything'. Sure it was bullshit, but since being told to grow some balls I've closed all those threads and people are like "wooo! I want to put your balls in my mouth now!"

But yeah, I can see it would be a problem in the bigger forums.

I like the soft delete. It allows me to bring back a thread if a mistake was made or reference it for the name of a troll or spammer.

So regular users can't see soft deleted threads at all?

I can't be arsed to log out to check.

Zok, if you could wipe out the ones in the Conspiracy forum, that would be great. It's about 70% saturated with soft deletes.

Thanks in advance.

good point - I just logged out and in again and yes, the regualr forum viewers do NOT see threads that have been soft deleted.... in which case it is quite handy function.

I thought it was shit at first - but that was when I thought ALL could see the remains of the threads, so to speak.

No need to log out, you can just go into a forum that you don't mod and the effect is the same :)

Oh I like the soft delete too for most deletes. But for situations like the other day it would benice to not have to have the place cluttered with a shitload of useless spam.

Oooh, something I've found that makes it a *tiny* bit less messy till we can properly delete stuff,

Select all the closed spam threads with that little white box to the far right of the thread list so you can select a bunch of them, then select to merge the threads, but select 'to leave no redirects'.

It means that the spam threads get merged into one fat thread, which means you've only one messy spam thread instead of loads.

I think the soft delete should stay.

The regulars don't see it, but other mods in the forum can.

If the delete wasn't worth it, it can be undeleted.

This is important in stopping someone just going on a mass deletion spree.

I don't think anyone is suggesting getting rid of the soft delete. I think it's more about adding the option of using a hard delete.

That's actually pretty clever. I'd suggest doing that if I'm not around to kill all the soft deleted threads.

Btw: Got Lab Tips last night as requested by Bongtech via email.
