Does anyone know what a good catalyst is that I can buy at walmart or something??

I bought some draino, but I don't think it has any acid in it.

Something prone to deprotonation might be handy. Suggestion to read labels and MSDS.

Hydrochloric Acid. Otherwise known as Muriatic acid

Draino contains a base. You should know these things before trying to synth AP.

So yea you need to learn more about AP synth before you even attempt this shit. Catalysts for it should be major thing you should already know this question shouldn't even be asked you should know it before you even consider buying the shit. But to answer your question Sulfuric acid bought as drain cleaner can be bought as ROOTO brand. It comes in a nice white bottle in a plastic bag. Draino contains NaOH like blinky boy said its a base which im hoping to god you at least know that shit. But the thing you would want to buy is HCl which can be bought as muratic acid. Its sold for cleaning concrete, pools and other various things. Its cheaper then Sulfuric acid and when you use Sulfuric from my experince and from talking to other people sulfuric acid hisses at you and creates more hot spots which isn't good so go with the HCl.

Learn more about the shit you plan on trying. When attempting primary explosives or any explosive for that matter you should have a very good idea of what the hell your doing before you ever even consider making the shit. really, if draino was an acid it would be H2SO4 like the other drain cleaners. Also, every synth i have seen says "can be found in XXX named muriatic acid. one of 2 things happened here and both are signs you should not mess with AP. #1 you only looked at one synth, and did not look at others. or #2 you did not spend to time to find out what was exactly in when you bought.

if it's #1 read more the one place, and find as much info as you can. Thats almost as bad as useing the ACB...you have no idea if the person who made it is right.

if #2: you did not spend the time to learn what is in things. This can lead to some very nasty shit. things can and will react to things.

I was actually in a hurry and remembered that some drain cleaners had sulfuric acid in them so I checked the label, but it didn't say what was in it. Its not like I was about to use it without looking it up online.

Buying the wrong chemicals can be seriously dangerous.

You should really read more and know exactly what you are looking for based on the contents of what you are buying, not just a brand name (you didn't even get that far). Always, always read the labels, and know what CHEMICALS you are after, not just what they are called or referred to as.

That being said, we all start somewhere and although we all wish people would start off from a purely scientific and research based beginning to pyro, it's hardly ever the case. Be careful and research what you are doing, especially the safety precautions and dangers at hand.

I though you were some kewl who wanted a new toy now that the 4th is gone. I still say you should have looked in to it, you always want to make sure you know what things are. but really this is still the second case i listed. You NEED to read the back, and look in to things. You do not want to make the mistake of guessing because "some" have it in there. That can really fuck you up in later chem, and even pure pyro. I think there was a guy few years ago set his house on fire because he mixed up kclo3 with kclo4.
