| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

Unless he plans on running as an independent sometime soon, you won't be able to.

Re: Ron Paul
I had this opinion:
Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich (moreso with Paul) are the only candidates in these days that actually stand up for what they believe in. Believe me, I'm no socialist, but Kucinich's views are nothing but admirable. His views on how to fix the economy (ridding ourselves of the drug "war", changing are trade policies) are something you can tell, he really wants to do. Ron Paul has the same honorable aura surrounding him. Dr. Paul is the most consistent voting record, a man that doesn't just preach "small government" he backs it up. Ron Paul voted against the Iraq War, WTO, voted against the drug war, NEVER voted to raise taxes, openly opposes the IRS, and opposes all law-making at the federal level... just as the Constitution suggests.
Ron Paul is exactly what the founding father's would have loved; it's really exciting to see such an honest candidate. It's sad to see how many people don't realize how much money we waste as nation on this so called "war"(referring to war on drugs).
It really surprises me how many people today vote on who they think they will win, rather than who's views most closely represent theirs.
That's what I said in the drug thread, and I honestly stand by it. What Ron Paul represents is just such a great message it's amazing to even see it today. Politics are just so corrupt today having their opinions swayed by what they think their "base" wants... while we go and see a great person like Ron Paul vote on how the founding father's would have voted.
He's got my vote in the primary. It's great to see his numbers rising so quickly... he may even have a chance at winning the primary.

Re: Ron Paul
Kucinich wants to ban handguns, among other things. He can go to hell.

Re: Ron Paul
He's a socialist, but I respect him for his honest positions. Besides gun-grabbing, he seems very open about all rights never being infringed upon.

That's hypocritical to the nth degree. It is time tested that one right gone leads to another.
EDIT: He is, not you. I can see why you might respect someone for sticking to their opinions, but when they force ridiculous legislation to disarm america on me the respect stops.

His numbers have not risen. He is still at 0-1% in all national and state polls.
And he has absolutely no chance at winning any primary.
Ron Paul (and Kucinich and Gravel) are "vanity" candidates. They are simply running to gain a wider audience than their small districts they are usually confined too. There is a reason why Paul and Kucinich don't hold a state-wide office (Senate or Governor) and probably never will.
Ron Paul's ultimate political goal is to simply exceed expectations. If he places 5th place in any primary it would constitute a major victory for him IMO.

Re: Ron Paul
Maybe you're right. Maybe if he did get into a power of position, he'd take advantage of being in control of American lives. I guess my point was looking at his history, he's always been consistent on these issues SO FAR.
Don't worry, I'm not voting for a socialist.
