Okay, so I was at the store, and realized that I'm SO BEHIND on all this modern manga.

The last series I read was FLCL. Yes, they made a manga. And it was good.

Before that, I read the two Cowboy Bebop series. They were alright.

So what I'm looking for is Sci-Fi themes, absurdity, and some modest sex/nudity.

Any suggestions?

You could read Bleach, not much in the way of nudity, but absurdly big swords, and boobs.
Has some tech mixed in later on.
Im not too informed on Sci-fi, but you could see if there is a Big O manga.
And if you haven't already, Gundum is always a good choice.

One Piece and Gantz are probably two of the best mangas I've ever read.

Both are still going and have reached epic proportions.

One piece is up to chapter 462 while Gantz is at 252.

When I first picked up One Piece I was kind of ... eh ... about the art style, but it really grows on you. It's actually pretty amazing. The mangaka Oda manages to fill each of his panels with beautiful and detailed art. The story has come a long way. After reading volume one, I could have never imagined they would end up declaring war on the entire World Government just for the sake of one of their nakama. Also, before Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince came along, the One Piece volumes were the highest sailing books in Japan. It's they way for reason, because it's just that fucking good.

Gantz is a Seinen manga (older). A Sci-Fi with guns, gore, aliens, and much nudity. At first it was ok and everything, until the main character became more developed. Then it got really interesting. The story, at first, was slow-paced, had no idea what was going on. But finally plot development has started and it's pretty insane. This is a really good series to pick up.

Also if you havn't already, I'd recommend Hunter X Hunter. The mangaka for this one, Togashi, is the same guy who created Yuu Yuu Hakusho. Very very interesting ideas and story. The latest villian though looks remarkably like Cell... something I wasn't too happy about. The mangaka has not put out a new chapter in over a year, and has been in sick leave for quite sometime. It's pretty gory, make sure you find the uncut versions. A lot better.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a great sci-fi manga.

Not sci-fi, but you can't go wrong with Berserk.

Ruroni Kenshin is pretty good. Black Cat isn't bad, either. and i like Psychic Academy, but i'm gonna get flamed for that :P

One of the better sci-fi ones that I can remember reading was Deus Vitae, a three part series licensed here by Tokyo Pop.

It takes place in a distant future were humans are all but extinct, replaced on the earth by mechanical like race known as the Selenoids. Has all you wanted (noted in your first post) violence, nudity, sci-fi.

Go over to tokyopop.com and look for it under their manga tab for a larger, more expanded version of the summary.

i'm surprised that nobody mentioned the ghost in the shell or akira mangas cuz both of those probly have everything that you're looking for and they fucking rock. i also recommend appleseed, but it gets kinda long winded and boring in later chapters. still a good read though.
