Brilliant. The key to getting someone de-modded, now on sale!!
Perhaps it's just me, but recently every fucking time I close a thread, people start whining about how I'm "abusing my powers" and that I'm nothing but a "Russian Nazi".. I shit you not.
So to those of you who think I may be inactive, I am actually here, but every time I do something like moving or closing threads, people bitch at me.
I've even had someone Email me saying I was a censorship whore and should be de-modded...for closing a thread in the food forum that showed images of the mod forum.
Now it seems every time I go to close a thread, someone posts shit like "if you did that, itd just be abusing your mod powers, it's a legit thread, you cant close it just because you dislike the thread starter."
I mean, I know it's complete bullshit, but just how many people will it take whining to Zok or another Admin before I get demodded for completely inane and made up bullshit?
It's getting me pretty unhappy at the moment. It's getting to the point where every day I get scared of logging on to find I cant post here, that I suddenly realise my name has been removed from the mod list of OI...and that people are laughing, and realising the fact that they can declair a mod is 'abusing their powers' and they'll get de-modded.
Is anyone having problems like this at the moment?
Or am I just simply universaly despised?

Re: Brilliant. The key to getting someone de-modded, now on sale!!
Just ignore it. Zok and the other admins trust you to take good decisions, and you probably do. What the regulars think isn't important and most probably isn't tru.
Just do what you think is right and let them bitch.

Re: Brilliant. The key to getting someone de-modded, now on sale!!
Even Euda, whose modding style is the total opposite to mine, gets 'demod' threads for supposedly abusing some butthurt teen's FREEDOM OF SPEECH!111
I've lost count how many such threads Meta has clocked up.
As long as the Super-Mods don't say otherwise then quit worrying. And , trust me , they will give you fair warning if they notice you going postal. A couple of times recently Zok has had a public word (only here of course) about someones modding style.
The simple fact is you have 1. a vagina and 2. you are an active mod.
Let the spammers and kidiots squeal. When you start upsetting the regular serious posters or your co-mods then you'll know its time to worry.

As long as the mods, supermods, and Jeff don't think you should be demodded, you're fine.
You should actually be even more aggressive. Don't fuck around with them. If people start fucking with you, tear them a new one.

some butthurt teen's FREEDOM OF SPEECH!111
Said butthurt teen should host his own forum on his own .com with its own metric shitload of daily traffic, bandwidth costs, hosting space, &c., &c. And maybe then he can bitch.

Re: Brilliant. The key to getting someone de-modded, now on sale!!
Yoyo, I'm going to say this as non-bitchy as possible.
By now, you should know that totse is RUTHLESS, and as a mod you just need to get OVER it. We're not here to listen to retarded regulars and their mod bitching, you'd have to do something VERY SERIOUS or repeatedly 'reoffend' to even be de-modded.
I'm having this exact convo with another person at the moment, you just have to not let people get to you.
For the first 2 years of modding, I was followed around the board by a pack of HB regulars who's purpose was to spam my name and how 'fat' I was around the boards. When I became a mod of SG a couple of months after getting A&D it doubled.
But, they're over it now, I haven't had any serious issues in about in a number of months. It helps if you don't react to them, ignore them totally if possible and continue as if they're not there.
You learn to deal, and if you don't you crumble.

Why do people in the UK love the word "brilliant"?
You're not despised. totseans can be quite foolish and fickle. Even I made threads mocking and challenging Mandy when I first started posting on totse. He was the new nazi moderator.
I didn't even know what a moderator did, but it couldn't have been good. :)

You haven't been de-modded from OI or any other forums. I'm the only one who canmod/de-mod right now, and I know I didn't de-mod you.
Time for a story...
Shortly after Dr. Strangelove, Ratsnatcher, and I started NIRVANAnet(tm), we gathered all of the sysops together, sat down, and created a written charter. Dr. Strangelove suggested (insisted) that one of the items in the charter had to be this:
Users don't count.
No one disagreed, it was adopted by unanimous acclaim.

Buck up. Russians were enemies of the Nazis during world war 2, if that helps.
I also know what recent thread you're talking about; you needn't worry about shit like that. Stiff upper lip, and remember you girls have to push new humans out of your pelvis. If you're strong enough to pull a kid out of your ass, you're strong enough to handle some kid giving you shit for doing your job.
That is all.

That's probably not the most useful or most apt thing to quote to a user. It would be taken quite out of context.

Think back to the punk days. Every voice counts. Right?
It's a slap in the face to shove anything else down a man's throat. Most people don't deserve that slap in the face, even if they earn it.

Township Rebellion, Thanks for your support in that GPP thread.I was really unsure what to do.
I would have closed it for being a pointless thread but then the kid started squeeling about mod power abuse like a drunk chick at a party starts screaming hysterically about rape and the only way to silence her is to strangle her.

No worries, my gut instinct told me this kid was one of those "undercover" posters that try and promote his employers' product through message boards, pretending to be a real member.
I could be wrong, but it doesn't matter. That thread failed anyway.

You show me a mod who's not had people call for them to be demodded and I'll show you an inactive mod.
Any time you close a thread the user is going to bitch about it. It's not anything personal; they'd do it to anybody closing their threads... especially a relatively new mod, especially a female mod and--this is the really important bit--especially anybody who ever shows that they let anything the regulars say get to them; there's nothing wrong with getting angry, but don't let anybody goad you into it. There's nothing at all wrong with your modding (and a lot right with it), and if there was another mod of your forums or an admin would have said something.

Pffft, who doesent?
I'm hoping things are okay. For one, I cant mess up GPP 'cause Xip will smack me around if he gets back and finds it in smouldering ruins. Sambob locks me in a cupboard and makes me listen to Abba if I wreak havoc in OI and..I kinda know better than to break stuff in Jackketch's domain.
As for SG? To me, I no longer moderate that forum, as was requested. There's nothing I can do about my name being on the forum still.
Thanks for putting my mind at rest everyone. I am calm now.

Re: Brilliant. The key to getting someone de-modded, now on sale!!
That's probably not the most useful or most apt thing to quote to a user. It would be taken quite out of context.
Users always take it out of context.
In the context of NIRVANAnet(tm) it made perfect sense. The sysops ran their individual BBS systems and we networked the message bases together. Sysops voted on everything, users didn't get a say in how the network worked or in the policies we created. If a user wanted a say in how things ran, all they had to do was set up their own BBS with their own time and money and join the network, THEN they'd get a vote. No effort, no vote.
Or as the current FAQ puts it:
Q: You people are a bunch of hypocrites because you're doing [thing X] when you should be doing [thing Y].
A: We couldn't agree more. Please continue to psychoanalyze our motives and actions and send us your valuable insights.

Ouch. That's the freaking point!
I love totse (in a totally platonic way, usually..). The only thing that was making me unhappy was the thought that people who matter to me here might find me unimportant.
And to be de-modded? Soul destroying.
Edit: but, I've had some sensible responses in this thread. All I can do is my best.

Re: Brilliant. The key to getting someone de-modded, now on sale!!
A few people seem to have misunderstood me.
As clear as I thought it was, I'll say it again:
I'm happy moderating totse.
It concerned me that a few people thought they could use a new tool to de-mod someone by saying that they were abusing their powers.
That is all.
