Default I sold my arowana... What new fish should I get?

My silver arowana was getting too big for my tank (4'x2'x2') so I sold him to a friend of mine (8'x3'x3') for a token sum. I'm now looking for a replacement and could use some ideas. I've previously had a spotted gar and loved him but I can't find another (housemate killed it). I found a freshwater moray at a store near my house which is tempting. They also have an excellent Saratoga Jardini (pearl arowana) which is a little cheaper and very cute (12cm). I'm open to any/all suggestions. I've also considered setting it up as a malawi tank.

On a side note, my (male) silver has already paired up with his female... lucky bastard (they're about $300 a hit for good juvies here).

My first job was at an aquarium fish and supply store. Wouldn't they look like shite because when you first get them, they've been eating crap food like tetra products or something? I'd think they're color would come out after feeding them some decent food after awhile. Also thats a picture of an Adult. Like many cichlids, they're color change with age.

+1 to you for working at an aquarium store.

I assume you want something aggressive? Was the arowana the only thing in there? And I'm guessing your tank is somewhere around a 120?

Get a couple big SA cichlids or turn it into an African cichlid tank. Frontosa's are kickass if you're into them.

Or, if you have the time and money, a brackish water tank.

and you get to have other livestock that are less colorful versions of saltwater livestock.

That always used to crack me up when I was working in a fish store, we had to check whether it was a Tetra rep we were talking to (company had a deal with tetra) before recommending dry foods as the nishikoi range was far better in the pond dept.
Dandy

Edit- In keeping with the thread, I'd recommend a freshwater stingray, they're great to feed by hand. Or maybe a big fish community (assuming you don't have that oing on already) with some catfish varieties, oscars, jack dempsey etc etc.

Piranhas.

You could get mixed group. Or a solo bad ass fish.

IMO, piranhas are actually boring. People call them tetras with teeth. They're pretty timid. The only exciting part about owning them is seeing them eat live food. That's it. Some people like 'em and some don't. All about whether it's your cup of tea or not.

Did you get new fish yet, or are you still thinking?

Nothing yet, I've been out of town for a bit, visiting my dad/brother in another city. I would love a stingray but they're $1500 minimum around here. Piranhas are actually illegal here. Though I could get some, I feel the same about them as thatcoolkid. I'm leaning towards the jardini. It's an extremely good one and it's looking like the cheaper option. I have a wild caught gibbiceps that's starting to get big so I was thinking that the two of them plus maybe a sleepy cod or jenkins grunter
