Or sell it.
If it's Verizon, it doesn't use SIM cards, so just take it to their store and take out a new contract on it. Free phone, pretty much.

Is there a way to clear all the shit off of it before I take it in, or sell it to someone?

Mine looks like a fresh, brand-new phone now, much less suspicious for selling, or activating on another plan.

Edit: It DOES NOT clear the plan or current number from the phone, just for reference, it's only cosmetic.

when i worked at the mall, i went to the restrooms once, anc found a cell phone on a chair on the food court on the way there. whoever owned it called... they said "hello? did you find my phone?" and i said yes. they said "oh great, can you take it to the service booth for me?" and i said "no, i think i am gonna smash it." i heard her yelling at me as i chucked it on the ground and stomped it to bits.
