Default Movie Date?

So I met this chick 2 weeks ago at drivers training named Sophie. After talking a bit, she says something about her boyfriend so I back off a bit. We talked a few times in class, sat next to each other, had alot of fun, so we exchanged numbers and said we should hang out this summer. Shes awesome and pretty and.. yeah. Shes cool. Anyways, I wasn't really expecting her to call me at all, let alone anytime soon. But she did.

Sophie calls me up when Im away with my sister about 5 hours from Chicago. She says something about her boyfriend breaking up with her, but I can barely hear her because of bad connection, so I tell her I'll call her back when I'm in town. A day later she texts me saying shes feeling shitty etc. so I text back and forth with her for awhile until she calls me up again. I could hear her fine then and we talked for another hour or so just getting to know each other a bit...

She tells me that her boyfriend broke up with her but for the most part shes over it (it happened only 3 or so days ago). After explaining the break-up, she says shes free thursday (I didnt ask) and asks me if I wanna hang out then. I say sure and asks what she has in mind and she asks if I want to go see a movie.

Now what defines a date? when two people go on a date, is it reffered to as a date by them, or do they just say theyre going to see a movie together? Do you think this is a 'date'? What the fuck should I do, because in my mind theres 2 options: 1) talk a tiny bit but put your full attention on the movie or 2) disregard the movie completely and make out the whole time. Isn't there an inbetween? This girl gets bored easily, but shes not a skank either.

It's a scary movie by the way.

THANKSSS

If she made a point of the fact that she broke up with her boyfriend, I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Just play it by ear.

Be a gentleman, pay for the tickets and ask her if she'd like anything. Maybe take her out to eat somewhere after the movie?

BTW, why does everyone try and categorize everything?

She wants to hang with you. There's no need for you to get confirmation that you're going on a date.. just go with it..

Just play everything cool, be normal. If she obviously doesnt want to watch the movie and wants to make out with you , you'll know. But its a first date so i wouldnt reccomend making a move really fast. Just stay calm, roll with the punches, you'll be fine.

If it is a date, and you have a genuine interest in the girl, shun away from the movie. Movies create awkwardness, you know, with the whole kissing during the movie thing, and doesn't give you a chance to sit down and chat and get to know each other very well. Walks on the beach, park or any other place work well to start relationships, because it doesn't create an awkward environment for the two, and if no subject comes up to talk about, just start a conversation about how beautiful the shrubbery looks this year.

Another option for taking girls out for the first time, would be over coffee and maybe a croissant or something of the like. This also creates a conversation lane, being coffee, the food, their interests in food, cooking, or even feng shui. If no conversation comes up after that, go get another coffee, cappucino, frappacino, or your choice of beverage, and talk about how delicious it is and what not. The possibilities are endless.

As far as a movie goes, if you're not interested in dating this girl, you can go as friends, and this probably won't create an awkwardness, because being just friends, you won't have the awkwardness of kissing or the like.

Hope this helps.
