Is there time enough to learn anything simple for July 4?
Topic. I want to do something special, so why not something I make myself? What, if anything, can I do before July 4 that would fall under "fireworks" in any way, including smoke bombs, which I'm already planning on?
And yes, I have read up on safety and such. A lot.

Google. Read the informational links. Read the PRRT, read the welcome read this sticky. DO NOT READ the totse text files (Ka-Fucking-Boom) DO NOT READ the Anarchist cook book or any of its various forms. Anything which says it's a recipe is probably BS. Double check all of your info and I do not mean by posting hear. Always post in PRRT first.
All that said you are probably looking for low explosives, you can do anything from salutes, to aerial shells (might take some work) Be more specific on what you are looking for please.

That's the thing. I'm not specific. I don't care what it is. Anything would be fine.

Well like aerial shells or noise makers? Look in the informational links at like the personal sites or w/e and just find something that looks easy and looks good to you and try that. Finding materials might be the hardest thing.

Well then how about a budget, or availability of chemicals? But people usually don't like to give help, because part of responsible pyrotechnics is the ability to find things out yourself.
If you know saftey, then you could make smoke mix, and somes salutes easily.
If you enough you could make fountains, bottle rockets, aerial shells, and other things.
I'd say just make salutes, as they are simple enough. Just make them properly, and safely, for heavens sake.

Re: Is there time enough to learn anything simple for July 4?
It depends a little upon how much space you have - if you have a large enough place to test things where you're not going to have the police called because a rocket de nozzled itself loudly, then you're probably fine if you can find sources of chems.
If this is your first firework, I would recommend a fountain. Start by following a tutorial, stay safe, and start small. On the night if you can be bothered, making a bloody huge one always looks more impressive than a class C store bought one.
Salutes, although easy, require you to work with some stronger oxidisers and more finely divided metals. Also German dark aluminium can be incredibly expensive. Smoke bombs are frankly a little boring, especially at night, and appear to me to be (along with peroxides) the greatest source of accidents.

Well....you've got about a week. I don't know if that's enough time to start making BP (which you need for quite a few pyro type items).
But if you've got the materials to make smoke mix, you can make some sugar rockets. You'll probably have to launch them during the day, but if done right it's pretty awesome.

Your pretty much SOL... now if you had alot of BP and star/shell building materials on hand like me you could do it in time... easily...
How much KNO3 do you have? Find some charcoal and crush it up into dust... make a fountain.

If you're at a loss, just pick up some FFFg Goex at the local gun shop/Walmart. Make some bottle-cap salutes out of those. Better than nothing.

Re: Is there time enough to learn anything simple for July 4?
Fountains and fireballs are great entry-level projects.
Salutes need a safe fuse for them to be handled by newbies, and that may be hard to get a hold off on such short notice. (unless you start taking other fireworks apart - what a crying shame that would be)

By all means kill yourself but do note that giving bad, dangerous advice is not acceptable. Maybe my sense of humour is a bit off today but you are really starting to piss me off.

However if you have any advice on my fireworks ( look down one or two threads) then ill gladly listen to you

Re: Is there time enough to learn anything simple for July 4?
You're not a legendary fuck-up, you're quite normal actually, and that flaming was pretty standard too. You'd be surprised how many people have passed this way with their ideas of cheap-thrills, I should know, I was one of them.
Thing is, unless you wise up, you're liable to burn up! The flaming you'll get here is nowhere near a third degree burn you'll get from an incendiary.
Cheap thrills - aren't
