i live basically in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by woods, and i fucking hate mosquitoes.
in most bugs sprays you buy, deet apparently is the shit you need, without it it really sucks. and i really dont want to get west nile or some shit.

is there a way i can extract the deet from the bugs spray to make like a super bug spray?

Yes, spray it in acetone then let i settle out, recover the top layer (which has all the good stuff), now put it in a pan and light it on fire! Do it quickly and bee careful, than put the back residue in water and put in on your skin and you will be safe from mosquito's!

Well, you can use acetone to extract it from solid sticks, but you shouldn't be lighting anything on fire.

Yeah it works, just remember to go to walmart and ask for muriatic acid, and this to the mixture and then harm it up to boiling point then add so NaOH to it

I know what you mean though, I've seen an old can of insect repellent that was 45% deet.

Look up MSDS "deep woods off" It is the highest deet repellent concetration commonly sold that I know off.

It's 19% Deet, 50-60 percent alchohol, 18-25 % various small chain alkanes, and some other junk.

Out of the bottle, the alkanes should vaporize immidiatly. Let it stand and the alchohol will start to evaporate off.

Several options are availivle. One is to let the liquid dry until crstals start to form, bottle it and then reuse that. The other is it let it dry all the way and disolve in ether or dichloromethane and then perform an acid/base extraction.

Another option if you just want the spray to stay on longer is to mix the dry deet with a liquid glove product. I'm not sure if this will work, but if it does you'll get 4-6 hours garanteed protection.

Your non-deet options would be to wear fabric head to toe that has been treated with DDT or Pyretherin.

Sure its the best way to go! Then remember to while you are still coking wet, to spray some and light on fire near you, the fumes will stick to your skin (stay close to the fire) and will make you GOD against the mosqeztos!

DDT is less toxic to mammals than table salt.
