Default Thread notes for closed threads

Hello everyone,

Can we all PLEASE either post or add a thread note (via the Edit Thread function) when closing threads? Sometimes it isn't at all obvious why a thread has been closed, and I've been tempted to reopen threads when there's no apparent reason for their closure. I don't want to override other mods without any reason, so please either post why you're closing the thread or, if you don't want to post, add a moderator note. Thanks...

(One of the threads in question was this one: http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=2021276 )

That one was one of mine. Sorry, I thought it was obvious that it was a bad clone of another thread.

Ah, ok. Fair enough--I didn't see the clone. Just a general request, though :)

IF its not obvious, then probably they shouldn't be closed in the first place.

Though you should not reopen threads someone else has closed unless its a TOTALLY bogus call.

I think it's pretty disrespectfull to re-open a thread that's been closed if you dont atleast communicate with other mods of the forum first.

In SG 98% of threads closed need to have a closing message Sam to stop there being any grey area - it's just how the forum runs.

Could you give some examples?? Not specific threads, but I just have a hard time beliving that 98% of the MANY MANY threads that have been closed in SG could be seen as "Gray".

If this IS the case it sounds like its being overmoderated.

I don't tell you how to mod your forums don't tell me/us how to mod ours, Capiche?

But just because you need to know so badly - SG is prone to trolls, more then most forums, and spammers. The best way I've found to try and keep the peace in there is to let people know in a closing post why there thread was closed so there isn't ANY doubt in ANYONES mind.
This also helps if said regular/mod isn't happy with there thread being closed that they can either - 1. Know which mod closed it, and contact them by email, 2. Understand why there thread was closed, therefore there is less of a chance of a "why was my thread closed" thread appearing and 3. If there IS any 'dispute' with another mod, who thinks a thread should be open, they know who to directly go to, instead of cluttering THIS forum with shit.

Anything else?

I think it's fair enough to do it if there's no closing message and the regular's made a thread asking for it to be re-opened, with a valid reason for it. If there's a reason for the thread's closure and you want to re-open it, then you should contact the mod first.

Or mods could just post their reasons and cut out a superfluous step :P
