I'm learning a beautiful song called 'Cavatina' which some of you may reconise as the theme song from 'the deer hunter'.

Hows that working out for you? That song is pretty tough, but really beautiful if you can nail it, check out some of the vids on youtube. I really need to get round to trying to learn that myself..

I usually do that too, but then I end up making a few of them a priority, and then forgetting about the others for a little bit.

I'll usually play around with one, while I learn another one seriously. And when I learn that one, I'll learn the one I was playing around with and play around with another song. And continue the cycle.

Surfing With The Alien is a very easy rock song. If you can play any Van Halen tunes, you should be able to handle it (I teach it to all of my guitar students, its a good song for people to learn how to use rock guitar techniques for playing lead parts). Some advice would be to take it one phrase at a time. Its not cheating to look at someones transcription.

Also dont stress out on getting the tone right. Satch plays everything with a wah pedal (though he usually just uses it sparingly to very GENTLY change the tone and timbre of the notes he's playing).

If you are really having trouble with it though, post a thread about it with the parts you're having trouble with and I'll see if I can help you.

I'm working on all of Interpol's album Antics. its not terribly difficult, but it is giving me good experience that helps when i try playing through a few of the harder songs i've looked at.

currently im learning a few covers for some bands as well as working on some of our own material.
