Free Microsoft Products?
I'm sure you have read the front page's free microsoft products text. Now I have a few microsoft products that I would like to "renew". Does this have any chance of even working?
Quote:
I was playing with my Microsoft keyboard at night when i spilled some pop on it and it stopped working. The next day i called Microsoft hardware support to see if anything could be done about being able to get a replacement and how much it would cost. They just asked me to look on the bottom of my keyboard to find the P/N (Product Number). I asked the lady on the phone for what address I should mail it to and she said that it was useless to them and that it happened all the time. She just asked for basic information about where to send the package in which I used the neighborhood abandoned house.
They said that it would be shipped out air mail at the end of the business day.
Sure enough three days later there was my new keyboard in a small brown box sitting out on the steps.
This gave my an idea to do this on a bunch of products that Microsoft sells. I ran on down to my local wal-mart to see what else i could get for free. I tore through boxes of stuff until i found the product code and called the support line sure enough in three days my brand new joystick was sitting in front of the door.
Oh and none of these things should be followed through this is an information article and none of the ideas in any form should be taken seriously.

Edit: Btw whats the phone number you have to call?

Re: Free Microsoft Products?
Yea I'm wondering this myself, as well as weather going to the store and picking random MS products will actually work, seeing as the P/N may be registered as not purchased. And details anyone?
Cause if that will work I'm heading to Future Shop and getting me some numbers.

Re: Free Microsoft Products?
After surfing the microsoft website I found 2 phone numbers, the US & Canada product replacement numbers. I'll try the US number and get back to you guys.
In the United States at (800) 360-7561, Monday - Friday, 5:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M. Pacific time zone.
In Canada at (800) 933-4750, Monday - Friday, 5:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M. Pacific time zone.

Re: Free Microsoft Products?
I also wondered if they would get suspicious if you asked for something like the best keyboard they had. If it goes up in prices, would they have more of a mind for security?
I've had the same experience and it worked really well (except it was e-mail and they were outsourced and could barely speak English). Problem was that it was a Kensington keyboard so it really sucked (the bluetooth adapter/8-port USB hub they made works well though.
But I still need a good keyboard so I am wondering should I go moderate or should I go all out.

Yes, yes it does. I got a free wireless laser mouse a couple years ago, I think its time for an upgrade. First I called the technical support line and went through the troubleshooting with the person. Pretending to change the batteries and bullshit like that.
Then the person ran outta options, so she gave me a case number to call warranty. I called warranty like 50 different times unsuccessful. Eventually I told them my case number before I said anything else and they were like "oh. ok. what is your address?" a few of them were assholes. So, then the one cool person asked my address and like three weeks later i got my mouse.

They don't know when the item is sold. They ask you on the phone "did you purchase this in the last three months?"

Re: Free Microsoft Products?
Can someone call MS and get the exact hardware warranty support phone number? Not the $36 a minute one =/

Re: Free Microsoft Products?
There is a $36/minute one? I thought the 1-800 numbers were free. Just search around on the Microsoft website and you will find the number to call. Also...I hope you guys keep this on the downlow. Dont want Microsoft to eventually find out. Use common sense and dont try to scam everyday.

If you want something why don't you get it yourself instead of asking for it? Ohh btw that is the right number and its free too call. Cause if you haven't noticed it has a 1-800.

Re: Free Microsoft Products?
I got myself a new wireless mouse and keyboard combo. I kept it below $60
so they wouldn't get to suspicious. Just a word of advice: don't go try to get free xbox 360 elites or they will definetly investigate yo ass.

Yeah actually I got it 2 weeks ago. All I told them was that I was typing and there was a power surge and the keyboard fried and the wireless receiver for the mouse doesn't work any more. They asked me for the serial which I had picked up earlier and I gave it to them. Then about a week and a half later I got the product brand spankin new in it's packaging.

The P/N aren't unique are they? If not, should we gather them here, I'm kind of interested in a Zune.....

QFT!!! And people should post the most expensive item received, just to give people a feel for the playing ground so to speak.

1. P/N's are unique.
2. When you QFT you don't type anything after it.

Re: Free Microsoft Products?
Just go to best buy and browse around for something microsoft (or another company like logitech perhaps?) and write down the p/n which is usually located on the botom of the product like a keyboard or whatever

Re: Free Microsoft Products?
The P/N's are unique depending on the model of the product. But lets say you have two Microsoft Laser Mice, then they will both have the same P/N since it is the same model.
I dont think you guys should just call Microsoft with only a P/N. I recommend you actually go BUY the product THEN call just incase Microsoft decides to ask you other information. You can always return it after. Just to play it safe...DONT tell them your product is broken when you return it because they might send it back to Microsoft. Just tell them its not what you wanted and it works fine so that they will just put it back on the shelves again.
I actually made a similar post to this requesting information on other companies this scam would work with. Its summer time and I know some of you are bored. Maybe take some of the existing products you have and call up the company trying to get a replacement? If it works...please post here and we can all share this info!

Re: Free Microsoft Products?
As I said before I did pull it of with only a p/n but next time I'm going to use speedbox's method. I think the only reason that it worked for me just w/ the p/n is because the customer service guy was really gullible and most of them, in my experience, aren't that way

Re: Free Microsoft Products?
Just to give you guys a heads up...Microsoft does infact keep records of your calls and returns so when you call, all your previous requests for products might show up right in front of them. I know this because I was curious so I played stupid pretending to forget my order number. I gave the customer service rep my phone number and they were able to pull up all my info including my previous order. So if you are going to do this multiple times, use a fake phone number and fake name, but obviously you will need the same address.

No two products have the same p/n. Even if they are the same brand, set, or item.

Re: Free Microsoft Products?
I looked at the bottom of my wireless mouse. There is a PID and a P/N. I am guessing the PID is unique while the P/N is just to ID the model of the product.

So people still having luck with this?
I grabbed the numbers for a keyboard off of a display model. I doubt Microsoft knows whether it is being used for commercial or personal use so I am guessing I can use that. Ideas?
