Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought.

Given that the US is a superpower, no. They can't afford that givn the economy and such.

Venezuela is moving toward socialism bu they weren't ostracized, shit many in the UN agree with Chavez.

Oh, when I meant by that I meant by the Capitalist European nations, +US and Canada.

There were actually several socialist revolutions like the ones in Russia but the others were quashed or moderated (ex. Germany had one but the Freikorps quashed them

Does your version of communism not include a dictatorship of the proletariat?
misunderstanding of words.

Dictatorship of the Proletariat means that the workers are dictating, not referring to a dictator in control, as Stalin was.

How about the huge amount of its population it killed off?
" dictatorships who fucked up any transition (Stalin mainly)"

That's part of it, sorry for not mentioning that in detail

So you're expecting "the black man" (which is a concept I disagree with) to be as successful as Japanese-Americans in 10 years, since it only took them 50 years to start doing great after getting out of the concentration camps?
The Japanese-Americans got reparations.

Blacks haven't.

Yes, this is a constant of any government. It's part of why I don't like governments.

Considering an uprising would likely initially destroy the US economy, I think your point is invalid.

Yes, and Venezuela is also moving towards economic collapse. Besides, it's more a cult of personality than socialism.

That has nothing to do with whether or not they were successful.

They exploit the workers to pay them significantly-less, overwork them then ship them back once their visa, or whatever they call it naturally expires and the companies don't want to vouch for them becoming citizens as they won't have to be forced to accept low wages

The Americans who would manufacture those components? There's a lot of workers being layed off currently. There was competition.

Again, irrelevant. Americans merely work different jobs that Chinks can't do.
Plenty of competition.

And people don't change their jobs like 'snap'. It's called structural unemployment, where people must change jobs, and it's natural in a dynamic, changing capitalist economy. In the end, efficiency is increased and costs reduced.
It's different with a transition from manufacturing to info. tech; as that requires a new degree, and such. Back them you didn't need a college degree and could keep the same job for your lifetime.

The older guys who don't have degrees would have to go back, spend 4 years to get degrees, etc and that's assuming they have an aptitude for those types of things.

You assume that the uprising is nasty and dangerous, and not quick.

Have you paid attention to the EXTREMELY low approval ratings for Congress and POTUS Bush?

Or, say that poll by scrippsnews saying 1/3 of America believes the Bush Regime ALLOWED 9/11 to happen?

That is possible, nay likely. But they would be in a council system so that the pre-eminent proletarian would be checked by the council, also elected as well and by the constitution that would protect the basic human rights.

That is true, but many substitutes rely on oil, in one way or another and I don't see anyone making the issue of peak oil important....except the Greens, maybe.

I think more of us angry Americans (I'm one of them) are more distrustful of government due to the utter failure of both Democrats and Republicans than wanting more of it.

That may be what he says, but I find it hard to believe that's actually what he's doing.

If he succeeds, he will have created the first government-directed program that worked in the history of mankind.

Obvious bullshit. Look at the TV station he took over.

The Duma sure did a shitty job of countering the pre-eminent proletarian, and since Chavez does not believe private property is a basic human right, his promise to protect them is empty.

Technically that wouldn't necessarily be government, it's be direct democracy funded by the government.

LOL....hahah, well what about War?

Not actually. He simply didn't renew the license of a TV station that advocated a coup in 2002 and wanted to shoot him.

You think Bush would've waited that long and simply not renewed the license if, say CNN broadcasted and advocated shooting Bush.

Oh, BTW in Lenin's will he warned the Soviets NOT to given Stalin any more power...apparently they didn't listen.

There were plenty of people opposing Stalin, they all were executed or fled. Trotsky is an example.

One place. And I find it hard to believe that he would be OK with it if they decided they wanted to try a free-enterprise system.

Quote:

So advocating overthrowing the American government, as you do, is OK, but advocating overthrowing the Venezuelan one isn't? Why is one government sacred and not the other? (Personally, I hold neither of them in very high regard.)

Quote:

I'm not LOLing. I'm not aware of a single government program, including war, that has achieved its stated goals in a reasonable amount of time/money.

Well, firstly, that would be the FCC's job, and secondly, the government has no right to decide what TV stations may broadcast. The same question I asked you about the sanctity of governments above goes for here too.

This does not counteract my point.

Maybe they didn't do anything about it because they were being oppressed by a "dictatorship of the proletariat".

Corporations are a legal fiction. Chavez has also taken huge swaths of individually owned land, some of which had been in the same family for centuries.

Why does that mean anything? The royal family and anyone related to them still own large amounts of land in the UK. I don't support them and I doubt most of the country does, but should the land stay theirs simply because it's "been in the same family for centuries"?

Besides who gives people the right to own land anyway? It's the government, so it's the governments decision. Otherwise you get into the whole "Property is theft" anarchy thing.
