Most amount of languages someone can learn
Okay I want to know whats the most amount of languages you've ever heard of someone knowing. I mean not just phrases from other languages but actually being able to have a conversation with other people in that language.
For me it's one of my Spanish teachers. He speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian. .

My Spanish teacher in high school claimed to be able to speak 7 fluently and 3 or 4 others semi-fluently. He taught 4 at our school so I know he can at least speak that many. Although despite being such a good linguist, he was actually one of the worst teachers I've ever had.

Leon Trotsky supposedly spoke 7. Ukrainian, Russian, English, French, Spanish, German, and Hebrew.

Cardinal Mezzofanti supposedly knew more than 38 languages fluently. A HUGE fucking accomplishment considering he lived in the late 18th century.
Ziad Fazah is alive today, and he supposedly knows 58 languages.

Thats some crazy shit. How do people do stuff like that? Im struggling with just 3 languages. (Spanish, French, English)

Of people whom I've actually met, my grandfather spoke English, French, German, Czech, and Russian.

I have no clue, but my guess would be that they learn several languages within the same group (like your teacher with the Spanish/Portuguese/Italian and the English/German).
It's always been easier for me to understand different Romantic languages since I studied Spanish in high school, I've also been able to under a few Slavic languages since I took Russian.
And German has always been sort of a freebie!
