There's a don't-tell policy concerning suppliers, so all the advice I can give you is to check the yellow pages for pyrotechnical suppliers.

There are quite a few suppliers in the informational links (or there were last time I looked.)
I got most of my suppliers from totse members on MSN when I first started out and afterwards started to find my own suppliers.
If its not hella important you should just use the birthday-cake sparklers they are neat and cheep and fun. Seriosly i use them all the time for small dets where whatever im blowing is encased so the little sparkies dont mess stuff up

I wouldn't risk my life over something that's made to throw hot sparks everywhere.
In regard to the danger of using sparklers as a fuse: wrapping sparklers (the metal-stick variety) tightly in a layer of aluminium foil eliminates most the sparking, and enables it to burn underwater.

Sparklers work great, they're cheap, predictable, reliable, burn hot, and burn long, much better than homemade fuse IMO. Just watch those sparks and take precautions accordingly
