Feeding baby corn snakes.
So my girlfriend got a little corn snake not too long ago. At the store, they said that the snake eats pinky mice and the feeding day is Thursday. So we went to the pet store and got a frozen pinky mouse (that's the kind that they feed them at the store) and the corn snake is refusing to eat it.
Suggestion/tips on what to do?
Thanks.

Re: Feeding baby corn snakes.
1. Mouse should be no bigger than snake at it's thickest point.
2. Place snake in an escape proof container seperate from it's normal enclosure. (Helps keep aggression to a minimum)
3.Thaw mouse by placing it in a container of warm water for 15 mins.
4. Refill container with warm water again if it has cooled too much.
5. Use tongs to pick up mouse, dangle in front of snake, drag in front of snake on the bottom of container.
6. If it doesn't seem interested, try again in a few days.
Corn snakes usually have a pretty decent feeding reaction and I haven't had a whole lot of trouble feeding mine.
Feel free to ask again if you're still having trouble in a couple days.

Re: Feeding baby corn snakes.
Mine is now borderline fuzzies/full blown small mice. I'm all out of fuzzies, so I guess I'll have to see if he feels like eating a small mouse.
Decent feeding reaction is an understatement. I hold the mouse by hand, at that little corn snake makes me jump like no other. WHAM!

Re: Feeding baby corn snakes.
1. Ask what they feed them in the petstore, it may be used to eating crickets.
2. Make sure temperatures stay within range for your species.
3. Make sure mouse is warm, not hot, not cold.
4. (Not likely the problem) Make sure it has constant day/night cycles.
Snakes can go on hunger strikes for many reasons. Some of my bigger snakes won't eat for months. In the wild anacondas sometimes eat only once a year.
Make sure everything is perfect for your snake. Read a lot about your snake from many different sources to see what needs to be done (as some places misinform) Make it as comfortable as possible.
I worry that it's such a young snake, young snakes are growing and usually very happy to oblige in sucking down a mouse or even two. If it lasts much longer I'd take it to a vet or at least take it back to the store and complain your ass off about it, bring your mom or a suitable adult female, they'll get your money back and maybe a free snake. My mom is a bitch though, and it's lame for a 20y/o to bring his mom, but w/e

Re: Feeding baby corn snakes.
See, that's what I did, the petstore said if his eyes become cloudy or he becomes inactive, then I will definitely have to bring him in, but otherwise, he very active, healthy looking, and isn't getting skinny or anything out of the ordinary. It seems like he's getting a little bit bigger, but I also have a 1 and a half year old Garter snake who never did this, but Garter Snakes are suppost to be really easy. Im thinking of getting him a bigger tank and Im pretty sure he'll be alot happier because his tank only is about his size when he stretches out all the way, no bigger than that. Hopefully there will be improvements. Thank you for your help.

It could be pre-shed too and not wanting to eat, make sure humidity is high enough for it shed comfortably.

Re: Feeding baby corn snakes.
I read online that sometimes in spring, they don't eat for a while, because of mating season. Mine went for a few weeks without eating, but eventually it ate, and has continued eating fine every week since.
Mine's now to small mice.
