| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

One major thing wrong with BC,Canada
FUCKING ICBC. Insurance corporation of british columbia.
So lets think about this for a second, were FORCED to pay for insurance on a vehicle, its a criminal offense not too. Now they go even further then that, the only insurance company available is run by the fucking goverenment.
SO theres no competitive pricing at all, your forced to pay whatever the fuck they want you to, by law. Do people not see that?
For the people who support this kind of shit there main defense is "well its operated by the public, we vote for those people" Complete ignorance, there all appointed by somebody who was appointed by somebody who was elected into office who doesnt give a shit about whats going on, its all I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine with those assholes.
Now what really pisses me off besides all that is if you get a ticket for ANYTHING they force you to pay for it through ICBC.
I got a drunk in public ticket this weekend, well guess what The ticket is made out by ICBC and I cant renew my drivers license untill I pay it. What the fuck does drinking a beer in public have to do with driving a vehicle. Any ticket you can imagine is the same way.
Isnt this shit considered a fucked up form of socialism. Time for a smoke.........

B.C. doesn't sound nearly as nice as I've heard. Write a letter to a local newspaper for kicks and see if anyone responds to it.

The problem with place like Alberta where you have private insurence is that the companies want to make a profit so pay more. Not sure about BC but in Saskachewan my budy who is 22 pays less tahn 500 a year to be insures on about 5 vehicles.

Re: One major thing wrong with BC,Canada
I see idiocy is international.
The logic behind it is, or was supposed to be, that because any given person in a car is potentially very dangerous, the insurance can compensate any victims. Whether it has stayed true to that is beside the point.
In NC we have to have insurance (I think its also a national law, but IDK) on autos, but we don't have to use a government corporation.

I think the OP's main complaint is that there is only one government-operated corporation to purchase insurance from; he is not really against having to pay insurance on vehicles.

He does not realises that in this case choice is bad. If there were private car insurance in BC he would have a choice of which company to give more money that he is paying now to. That's what happened in Alberta with car insurance, natural gas and electricity. THe price of those went up dramaticly after they were de-regulated.

Interesting. Are you saying that privitisation actually makes it more expensive for people? Usually the proponents of privitisation claim that the major benefit of privitisation is that people can pay less for their choice.
Can you tell us a bit more about what happened in Alberta?

King Ralph wanted an smaller government and actuly did something about it and de-regulated an bunch of things. The DMVs here are all franchises, that was a great idea and it works. Same thing with liquor store except for the fact that there is only one distributor and in the past year it has been screwing store owners. They even contract out health care to private clinics. That also also working out. At some point the phone comepany also went private and you could get long distance for less. But for some reason insurence, natural gas and electricity prices went way up imediatly after they were privatised. I know we were paying the most for car insurence in the country and the government had to step in to regulate it. Not sure what we are paying in comparison to BC but I can bet that if they went private the whole mess would play out again. I think the same thing happened in California when they de-regulated electricity.

Intresting, I'll try and do comparisons here at some point. Since alberta is all private, and BC is all government. If it turned out some things were better of private I would be for that 110%.
The thing that pisses me off the most is how they abuse that power the government holds by taking away your ability to drive (make a living) because you got a ticket, like drinking in public as I did. Whats next, they cut of your power if you dont pay a jaywalking ticket. Or refuse you service at the BC liquire stores. I just read in the paper today that they just passed a new fine for people getting caught buying liquire underage, and if they dont pay there ability to get or renew a license is taken away.
