Default Fe2O3+2AL

Anybody here know what the difference is between this type of thermite, and the type minus the AL, because I have made both, and say no huge difference, however, the reactions always look different, so I might not be able to tell my sight.

Thermite minus Al is just the oxidized metal. So, what did you substitute in for the Al? and don't say "nothing" because then you didn't do any reaction at all. The temperatures needed to turn iron oxide into pure iron are much higher than YOU are going to be able to achieve.

Anyway, if you are looking for some exotic thermites I'll provide you a list of the ones I've collected over the years.

Fe2O3 + 2Al
3Fe3O4 + 8Al
3MnO2 + 4Al
3TiO2 + 4Al
3Cu2O + 2Al
3SiO2 +4Al
3CoO + 2Al
Cr2O3 + 2Al

Anyway, as you can see, they all rely on Al, so taking Al out gives you...... Nothing

Don't forget CaSO4 + Al I like that one particularly because most people think of plaster as not being very reactive.

And the SiO2. I've heard it's not self sustaining.
