Ladies, your opinion of sleeping with a gun under the pillow?
I've recently taken a fancy to sleeping with my Glock under my pillow, although I'm not sure exactly why. Probably from watching too many James Bond type movies. It also probably has something to do with my neighbor threatening to come over with HIS gun and shoot my family. So ladies of totse, what do you think of having a gun under your pillow at night?

Re: Ladies, your opinion of sleeping with a gun under the pillow?
Why under the pillow?
Seems unreasonably dangerous to be sleeping with a GUN next to your HEAD, not to mention uncomfortable.
Why not keep it next to your bed, or under it or something?

Re: Ladies, your opinion of sleeping with a gun under the pillow?
Next to my bed would be too obvious. Under the bed would be a bitch to get to, as my bed consists of a mattress on the floor at this point. It's not NEXT to my head, it's UNDER it. What if I wake up, and there's an intruder right there? Going for somehing under the bed is obvious, and he would see it if out in the open.

Re: Ladies, your opinion of sleeping with a gun under the pillow?
Chill out babe, your neighbour probably isn't going to kill you, and if he is, I suggest telling the police.
It's not nice to live in fear, so I don't know, it might actually calm you down a bit to put that glock far, far away
...Unless of course you plan to use that barrel for things a wee bit more devious than sticking it to somebody's head, for bedroom things...if you catch my drift....
Just make sure it's not loaded if you're doing that!

Re: Ladies, your opinion of sleeping with a gun under the pillow?
We did call the police, and they came out and filed a report. Their response was to call them if a problem develops.
I'm not afraid, I'm more than confident I can kill him if the need should arise. I'm not afraid of dying, I'm just not going to let it be at the hands of my old grumpy neighbor. I refuse to be a victim.
I find things more peaceful when I have my gun(s) around.
As for that last bit...care to elaborate? LOL

Re: Ladies, your opinion of sleeping with a gun under the pillow?
It's a bad choice and a bad lifestyle.
If your bedside table isn't close enough, then chances are that you're out of luck anyhow.
However, I'm biased. I find guns distasteful.

Tiger-Striped, FTW!
It's not the hood, it's just I accidentally drove in the neighbor's yard one day, and he was consequently angered.

Re: Ladies, your opinion of sleeping with a gun under the pillow?
How about putting a night stand right next to your bed, but instead of having the gun inside or on top of it...strap a holster to the side. Then it will be out of sight, easy to reach, but not right under your ear.
Plus, what if you roll around and the gun ends up getting knocked around and falls under the bed or something? Then what if you get an intruder?
Although, an alarm system would be a lot safer and better. You could just have a motion sensor set up so that you would be alerted like 30 seconds earlier, thus giving you time to grab a gun located in a drawer.

Meh, it can't fall UNDER my bed, as it's just a mattress on the floor. I do have an alarm system of sorts: 3 dogs that bark crazily when they hear ANYTHING. The night stand is currently playing a stand-in role as my TV stand. Thus, it's too far away to get to at a moment's notice, as I'm not always able to keep my balance right after I wake up.

i can't stand guns. might have something to do with being against killing/hurting people.
if a guy had a gun in general i wouldn't want to be with him, let alone under his pillow.
if the situation is so bad that you feel you need a gun - it's time to move.

Re: Ladies, your opinion of sleeping with a gun under the pillow?
Really i think you a bit of a tool.
Either A) you live the crazy life that requires you to have a gun quick at hand at a moments notice
Bullshit your posting on Totse get fucked
B) You just get off on sleeping with a gun under your pillow. It makes you feel hardcore or whatever. Too many fucking bond films
Eitherway if you dont have time to get the gun from a bedside table etc then you dont have time to get it from under a pillow take aim and still be certain on what your shooting.
So what you reckon the odds of you jumping the gun and shooting your girlfriend as she gets a glass or water
compared to the odds of you shooting the intruder whose snuck into your room and woken you up whilst still giving you enough time to get your gun before hes stuck his up your ass
get a fucking life
Ps Good luck snap shooting at a target while half asleep from under your pillow

Re: Ladies, your opinion of sleeping with a gun under the pillow?
I am a freedom loving American, and also have a loaded weapon in my bedroom, but I have to agree with Nwalmaer. If you don't have the time to reach into a drawer and get the gun, then you don't have the time to get a gun for a fight period. You're better off with some basic preliminary detection shit, like ropes with bells or just lock your door and put a chair against the doorknob.
I sleep with a fully loaded SKS propped up against my desk, on the other side of my bedroom. There is no need for it to be superclose for a home defence situation, I just lock my door and keep my ears open.

It really worries me how blasé people can be about owning guns / being shot / shooting people. I'm glad I live in a country where you don't have to own a gun to feel safe because all your neighbours and their mothers have one.

Re: Ladies, your opinion of sleeping with a gun under the pillow?
Living in a semi-fascist state that doesn't allow its citzens to defend their homes/themselves or possess firearms , it doesn't really come into question.
I don't have a problem with guns..just americans. Compare gun crime/gun deaths in a major European city (where guns are allowed, say in Austria or Switzerland) and an american town of comparable size. Americans simply aren't adult enough to be allowed to own deadly weapons.
If I lived somewhere different and felt I might need a weapon by the bed then it'd a knife. Its faster, quieter.I mean come on, you don't want to wake the g/f do you? All that screaming??!
If it HAS to be a gun then I'm old school so Browning Hi-Power, 1911 or Star PD (a much underrrated gun IMO).
But
Guns Are For Show, Knives For a Pro.

I would never claim maturity, but I find guns distasteful because they're a tool with only one purpose.
It is quite simple for a Canadian to purchase a firearm. Canada is a nation that is big on hunting, not on guns for self-defence.
Many Canadians that are truly interested in guns actually travel to the UK to be trained as snipers. Does anybody else see the irony in that?

Yes it is a bit ironic but then again , unlike americans, brits and especially brit soldiers (all the instructers are probably ex army) can actually shoot and HIT the right target ! Something the US Army has proven time and time again it can't.

There's a great Bourdain episode where he's in Canada, in a Kitchen Ware shop ( a chef's porn Palace so to speak) and he can't get over the fact that its also a gun shop.
All your killing and culinary needs under one roof. Smart guys the canadians.

Re: Ladies, your opinion of sleeping with a gun under the pillow?
If you are woken up by an intruder then having the gun an extra 12 inches away won't make a blind bit of difference. You will be tired, disorientated and terrified. You will fumble about and probably push the gun between your bed and the wall at which point you will be finished if the person is trying to get you.
Keep the gun on the bedside table and for gods sake keep the magazine out of the gun itself until if and when you need it because if you start dreaming that you are being attacked you will grab for the gun in your sleep and probably open fire possibly injureing or killing yourself or someone else.

Re: Ladies, your opinion of sleeping with a gun under the pillow?
Just like 311 said guns are for pussies. If you've got a problem with your neighbour I'd either confront him straight up or walk around my property brandishing my gun/axe/shovel/pickaxe/whatever just so he knows you dont fuck around. My bro had a .26 when he was 14 and it got him in all sorts of trouble even though he bought it more to shoot squirrels at first.
But if you're too scared of your neighbours to deal with it I'd suggest moving before resting your head on an hand cannon while dreaming a genie.

are you kidding? your fucking bed was STOLEN? how do you steal a BED!?!.....
P.S. - MOVE. not too far if you like the area, but far enough.
edit: if the mattress on the floor and the gun under your pillow isnt enough for a woman to not want to be in your bed, im sure the fact that your bed was stolen is not going to make her feel safe. and don't say that the gun is going to make her feel safe because its not.

Re: Ladies, your opinion of sleeping with a gun under the pillow?
Sidewayz....its sounds to me like the setup you have in your room is something similar I had years ago when I was living with a girlfriend of mine. I was living with her family in an unfinished attic that we converted into a "party room" of sorts. There really wasn't a better place for my piece and I kept it under our mattress as well. The only difference being was it was a sawed off shotgun, and I was dealing cocaine at the time. (Possibly more at risk than you)
For the record my girl didn't care....but then again as long as I was rubbing her the right way and filling her nose with powder she didn't complain about much.

Having a handgun under your pillow is much more impractical and dangerous than having for example a shotgun in your cupboard. You keep it there (and post about it) simply for the image.

If someone can't be trusted to remain a law-abiding, peaceful person while having the full implements to be the exact opposite, then they are extremely dangerous.
They are only trustworthy until they have the means to be criminal, in which case they should never have been trusted in the first place.
Everyone in my family, as well as everyone I know who has a firearm in their house, are extremely responsible, peaceful people. We just don't plan on not being able to defend ourselves when the time comes, especially considering in our country you have absolutely no legal right to police protection(Bowers v. DeVito). If people aren't willing to take personal responsibility for their own defence, then who is going to?
Guns Are For Show, Knives For a Pro.
Carrying a knife for self-defence is one of the worst things you can do if you are not well-trained in it's use. Firearms, on the other hand, are far more effective simply because once gun shots go off a criminal is on the run, since he knows that it doesn't matter if his enemy is a 5 foot tall grandmother or a 6 foot Marine, his life is now being seriously jeopardized and the police are on the way.
I would never claim maturity, but I find guns distasteful because they're a tool with only one purpose.
So you find weapons distasteful? I find that disheartening.
Don't get me wrong people, the OP having a gun underneath his pillow is excessive in the extreme, but the idea that law-abiding citizens keeping a firearm in their home for their own personal defence is a bad thing I just happen to find appalling and immature, just like Freud did.
