How do I increase my connection speed?
My internet seems to be running really slow. I'm using Qwest DSL in Denver, CO.

Switch off your modem and switch it on again. It gives you a new IP which can somehow speed up a slow connection which is meant to be faster - if someone could explain this I'd be interested.
I'm on BT DSL in the UK which is supposed to be 2mbps but last week it dropped to 100k. I switched the router on and off and hey presto, I was back to full speed again.

The router on/off thing isn't necessarily the IP Address.
With some routers, especially those running old firmwares (most notably linksys and cisco) When they are dealing with heavy traffic over a period of time they become "bogged down" and loose some of their speed. Resetting them clears them memory and makes them start fresh.
Be sure to upgrade your router or modem's firmware via their control panel.
If its a router use: 192.168.1.1
If it's a modem use: 192.168.0.1

^^ Ah, thanks for the info. I know with my BT connection I got a new external IP when I power cycled the modem, but if it's not that which speeds up the connection then it doesn't matter.

fantastic service and you get 8MB cheaper than BT's 2MB with free weekend call's, and no I dont work for them.

I go over the quota within 24 hours most of the time but they don't seem to care. I've never got a warning or letter about it, but the pricing is a bit much.
I'll look into Toucan I think, thanks for the tip.

You can also use a TCP optimiser to squeeze a few more KB/s from your connection.
