Default Scared of the paedo police

How are you supposed to avoid underaged porn? It's not like there are warnings on the homepages saying "the material you are about to view features children and is illegal everywhere". Sometimes I see pictures, even professional ones, which look like underaged girls, but are presumably young-looking women.

What if you have a picture of some 17 year-old that her boyfriend posted? Could that get you sent down?

Is paedo-porn is well enough hidden by the gangs of evil paedos (who everyone knows live outside of normal society) that I couldn't possibly come across it accidentally?

Finally, how are you supposed to ask these kinds of questions safely?

What made me think of this was reading about Pete Townshend of The Who, who was apparently caught with some underaged porn on his hard drive.

Noones going to hunt you down if you've got a couple of underage clips mixed in with the hundreds of other porn files on your computer. It happens. We've all stumbled across some underage stuff at one point in our travels.

If you're that worried, just delete whatevers questionable. Noones going to really care if you've got 15/16 year old porn, unless you just so happened to be the director. Just stay away from children/preteens. But for the most part, the pedo police are more concerned with the people who are producing it then tracking down everyone it's been distributed to.

But from a moral point of view, stay away from it. Thats some seriously sick shit...

Ignore the IP, just send them to my place. Cowell's the name, I live in some big mansion in Beverly Hills, where no one cares if you're a sick bastard anyway.

Yes, SilentMind, you talk sense. I'm sure the cops have got real criminals to catch.

I don't think jailbait stuff is a major concern of the authorities, plus it seems nearly impossible to prove the age of a model when you're talking like 15-17 year olds. As far as I can tell, most girls within that range are just as physically developed as 18+ women...very hard to tell them apart just from pics or videos. I mean, these days I can only discern a 16 year old girl from an 18 year old by talking to them, noticing the differences in vocabulary, the way they carry themselves, etc...

I wouldn't worry about it. It's Gary Glitter type stuff that they want to shut down -- REALLY young girls who are not sexually developed and have no clue what's going on. That's what the hysteria is about, because of the exploitation and because it sickens many people. It's probable that some jailbait-range girls are also being exploited for porn, but if they're developed, have all the secondary sex characteristics etc, it doesn't sicken people. And would it really be worth the effort & manpower to pursue some dude with a few questionable pics on his PC when there's kiddie rape porn still being circulated?

So yeah, if the porn model has curves and obviously isn't a young child, I doubt anyone is going to question it.

This is all just speculation though, I admittedly don't know too much about the laws surrounding this stuff. You better wait for JoePedo to log on, totse's resident poetical pedo-psychonaut phenomenon.

...err, hi! At'cher service, glad ya called! :)

Well, hon... the only part of that chain of wishful 'n tabloid-inspired chain of thought is the word "gangs." One of the easiest ways to come across large amounts of kiddie pron is if you're on a board which gets hit by a /b/oard raid. Or, using p2p. Just like your "r@ygold babyj pthc hot 2yo sex" is likely to be a music video of eminem, so too is your "music video of eminem" likely to be, well... hot 2yo sex.

Finally, how are you supposed to ask these kinds of questions safely?

http://www23.tok2.com/home/hanahirotakao/surfsafe.htm

Like that. :D

...anyways... yes, it's remarkably easy to come across large amounts of CP nonvoluntarily. Yes, not looking for it still means you get prosecuted. In the US, if she has her clothes on and isn't doing anything with herself or anyone else, you still go down for mandatory jailtime.

That's right. Pic of kid with clothes on == prison.

On the bright side... if you do "accidentally" stumble across 300 gigabyte downloads of hawt toddler s3x... multiple times... chances are you're lost in the crowd. The fucking fuzz know they're outnumbered, by far, and don't even bother trying to enforce anything, except once every 4 years when they grab 20 people and call it a "major bust" for headlines purpouses. Simple economics 'n logistics; I could probably find 5-10,000 people a day. Each one gets a mandatory minimum of over a hundred years... now, how long 'till the prison system collapses??

Right. Chances are you just get lost in the crowd. Surf safe, learn to wipe your @#$% hard drive to department of defense protocols, 'n don't worry 'bout it too much...

...further questions should probably go in network security.

Every porn page on the web has on the bottom "all models depicted are 18 or older"

I can only speak for the UK. Here it is an offence even just to view kiddy porn. ie...sully your eyes with it. You don't need to download it to get quality time with Bubba.

Thats right. You surf and hit a CP site by accident then thats already an offence.

However BT (and all other ISP's) now censor internet connections for known kiddy porn sites to protect us from accidentally committing a felony.

No I'm not joking, its no secret.

And who chooses which sites should be blocked? The Police? Some democratically elected body? Nope...a group of self proclaimed sheriffs and busy bodies.

Oh and they protect us from other things too...

BT puts block on child porn sites

Martin Bright, home affairs editor
Sunday June 6, 2004
The Observer

British Telecom has taken the unprecedented step of blocking all illegal child pornography websites in a crackdown on abuse online. The decision by Britain's largest high-speed internet provider will lead to the first mass censorship of the web attempted in a Western democracy.

The move, previously thought to be at the limits of technical possibilities of the internet and prohibitively expensive, was given the personal backing of BT chairman Sir Christopher Bland at a board meeting last month after intense pressure from children's charities.

Article continues
Known as Cleanfeed, the project has been developed in consultation with the Home Office and will go live by the end of the month, The Observer can reveal. Other major players in the internet market, such as Energis and Thus, which owns rival Demon Internet, are said to be preparing to block banned sites.

Subscribers to British Telecom's internet services such as BTYahoo and BTInternet who attempt to access illegal sites will receive an error message as if the page was unavailable. BT will register the number of attempts but will not be able to record details of those accessing the sites.

A list of illegal sites compiled by the Internet Watch Foundation, the industry's watchdog, has been available for some time, but until now there has been no way to prevent people accessing them because most are based outside the UK.

The initiative would not have been possible a year ago, but improvements in computer processing speeds means that the company is now able to block websites, offensive pages and even individual images of abuse.

The move is the brainchild of John Carr, internet adviser to children's charity NCH, who wrote to Home Office Minister Paul Goggins last July urging action on paedophile websites after a successful campaign to block internet newsgroups (electronic message boards which paedophiles used to share images of children). Goggins approached internet providers last September to ask them to investigate if it would be possible. At first they were resistant, but BT came back to the Home Office last month to announce early tests of Cleanfeed had been successful.

Blocking websites is highly controversial and until now has been associated only with oppressive regimes such as Saudi Arabia and China, which have censored sites associated with dissidents. But many in the field of child protection believe that the explosion of paedophile sites justifies the crackdown.

'British Telecom deserve to be congratulated on this bold move,' Carr said. 'I expect every other service provider will now look at what they are doing to see if they can achieve a similar result.'

Pierre Danon, chief executive of BT Retail, added: 'You are always caught between the desire to tackle child pornography and freedom of information. But I was fed up with not acting on this and always being told that it was techically impossible.'

However the police have said that if someone genuinely stumbles on kiddy porn, accidently downloads it or gets sent it then as long as they delete it straight away etc etc then that's ok.
