'The official moderator bitch thread'
So SG moderators, "The official moderator bitch thread"
A- this thread is pointless and silly. It just lets a few disatisfied posters insult moderators as much as they possibly can with their limited vocabularies.
WTF is this stickied and WTF stickied it?
It must die!!
OR
B- This thread is great! It's really interesting to read how much some posters hate some moderators. It's really a very usefull thread, and it's excellent to know that XXX poster hates XXX moderator. That's a really usefull thing to know and I'll deffinately use that info wisely!
Vote.

Re: 'The official moderator bitch thread'
I originally stickied it because I was sick and tired of numerous threads bitching about moderators cluttering up the front page.
The way I see it, it has a couple of advantages.
1) you can now close/delete any and all bitch threads, and direct the OP to the stickied thread.
2) It hopefully contains all bitchiness to the stickied thread.
3) once in a while we might get some good productive feedback in that thread.
But I can see where you're coming from. If enough people don't like it, consider it un-stickied.

Wintermute had one a couple years ago. I think Mandy and Red Raven did too.

You don't have to read it or reply.
It's there to keep the forum clean of other complaining threads.

Re: 'The official moderator bitch thread'
But it doesent work too well, really.
I though B&M was there for people to bitch about the mods.
Oddly enough, I didnt think SG would encourage people to demand mods to be removed or de-modded.
:(
I dont want to be de-modded!

SGers won't go to B&M for SG-related issues, or have you not been in SG long enough to see that?

They're just whining. That's the purpose of the thread.
I wouldn't worry over it.

Re: 'The official moderator bitch thread'
I've made mistakes, deffinately. But when someone has pointed out to me that I've screwed up, I do my best to rectify the problem.
A simple Email to me from a regular, even if I couldnt re-open a thread because it was spam or closed by another mod, I could atleast appologise and sort the situation.
But that's not good enough for some people and they simply will not be happy till I've been de-modded and humiliated horribly.
:(
Edit: I'll let this thread die now. I'm just feeling whiney and insecure.

Re: 'The official moderator bitch thread'
It happens to everybody who moderates SG.
They've all had the same threads, the same calls to be demod'd.
How many have you seen demod'd? :)
(None)

I worry when there isn't a 'Demod jackketch' thread somewhere on totse.
Means I'm not doing my job.

Does anyone use "Merge Threads" on the Thread Tools menu? Seems like sometimes it might make more sense to merge than to close or delete.

Re: 'The official moderator bitch thread'
I love the merge function. I'm not sure how much use it gets in the larger forums, but it's handy in the small forums(such as merging the three Sopranos finale threads into one).

Actually, I have. In fact, the Official Moderator Bitch thread was born when I merged two threads about 80 posts each concerning moderator business.
but for stuff like "omg y u delete mi post?" with only one or two replies, I don't really see the point.

I used it right after the V Tech shooting; it came in very handy. I've used it once or twice since too.
A very handy tool but one that doesn't get to be used much.

Re: 'The official moderator bitch thread'
We have an ENTIRE forum for bitching.
Jeff - Yes, I've used the merge thread thingy a couple of times, seems to work well.
While the SG mods are looking in here can I PLEASE request that when you lock a thread you give a closing post outlining the reason.

Yeah, I allways post in a thread I'm about to close.
It's very frustrating when -whoever- closes a thread without posting anything, because then automatically people blame ME!
Oh the Emails I've received..
"fuk u yoyobith ur a fukin nazi closen my thread4 no reson fuk u fuk cu"
And it wasnt me!
:(
The merge tool?
Yeah I used that with a thread in OI, and it resulted in a rather jilted thread that didnt make much sense and alot of confused posters. heh. That was my bad though.

Re: 'The official moderator bitch thread'
I post in about 90% of threads I close (which isn't many). If something's just spam and it's far down the list, I just lock it as posting bumps it back up to the top, but I try to make sure those ones are obviously close-worthy.

Re: 'The official moderator bitch thread'
Awesome. Yeah some are so obvious (and so spammy) that they go without being said, but theres been a number of times when I've had to go back and try to explain why another mod has closed a thread (and not always a thread that should have been closed) to a regular thats getting upset - Plus, for that very reason its good to know WHO the mod was so that, for what ever reason, another mod thinks it should be open - you can at least know who to talk to/who's toes your about to step on - or the topic starter can contact that mod about why it was closed.

Re: 'The official moderator bitch thread'
Out of curiosity I'd like to know who stickied the mod bitch thread. Not causing trouble, I just wonder why, and why no other mods of the forum were given the chance to voice their oppinion before the thread was stickied.
I guess that's one of the confusing bits of having so many mods in a forum!
I'm assuming it's getting close to the rotation time now? I'll actually miss SG a fair bit, but atleast you original mods wont have to put up with mods like me stepping on your toes all the time.

I believe it was meta or piratejoe.
The forum does have a lot of mods now, and it was a lot different when there were only the 4 of us - but if people post WHY they're doing things it makes it a hell of a lot easier to the co-mods and things run more smoothly.

Re: 'The official moderator bitch thread'
Well I think Jeffs original plan was that mods would rotate from the forum? But I guess alot of the original mods didnt want to rotate out.
Perhaps this is going to happen every month, with every rotation? You and the other original mods will stay, and you'll mod with a new batch of random mods from other forums?
That will be fun to watch.:D

Re: 'The official moderator bitch thread'
It just happened when acidmelt got around to doing it - we did have a list of sorts that mlor did - outlining the date that the change would happen and who was going in - but now that only Jeff can add or remove mods, I think the time frame is likely to be a bit more scattered.
It used to be one person in, one out - which I think works well because new mods (Espeically ones that have never modded SG before) get overwelmed/don't know exactly the way modding SG works - so they can learn from the way other mods work - which also means that its keeping a sort of 'standard' of modding pretty even (or at least I'd like to think so).

Re: 'The official moderator bitch thread'
Generally I'm not doing much in SG, because I'm tired of the hatred it invokes.
I close blatant spam threads and move threads to more suitable forums. Other than that I'm not going to close something just because I dont 'think' it belongs there.
SG is an odd creature.

Re: 'The official moderator bitch thread'
IMPORTANT!
I guess it might come across as a bit bossy, but would it be possible for mods in SG to post in a thread before they close it?
Again and AGAIN I've posted in a thread, to find it's suddenly been closed, with no reason and no mod explanation. And ofcourse, as I've posted in the thread, people then assume it's me being a nazi!
