Becoming homeless...
on purpose- for the sake of research is a bad idea or interesting?
I heard through a friend that an acquaintance of mine- whom I was not very close with- just recently wrote his college thesis based on his experiences as a homeless person, living in the streets of downtown Atlanta. I had no idea he was doing this, I was even living in that part of the area the whole time he was doing this.
And now... I think that that would be a very interesting project, either as a thesis or just a research paper or something. I'm not planning to do it anytime soon, I don't really have that time really, but are there any legal issues or anything with that? Would any of you consider doing this?

Re: Becoming homeless...
Assuming you kept your other bills paid (taxes, maby a car payment if you have one etc) I guess you could take a little vacation as a homeless person.
I've always wondered what it was like. I'd only do it if I could bring my own shit of course (Proper clothes, mat, blanket, weapons, maby some rations.) I remember the Super Size Me guy did this with his GF on that show 30 days.
But they weren't homeless just pretending to be working class or something.

Re: Becoming homeless...
you CAN'T do it for research. not having anywhere to go can not be emulated for a short time; you are either a vagabond, or just not at home. it just isn't the same, knowing you have a base.

Research papers can only be done on that in retrospect. You need to really be homeless, i.e. without any bills or such. Really be homeless, do it, or else you cannot completely understand.
You're looking on it as if it were a way of life; it is not, is is life.

Been homeless for 2 months aswell just like danzig, except mine was in the winter time aswell when it was fucking freezing.
Here's my story about it, then you can decide if you want to be homeless or not.

I'm really not trying to glamourize being homeless or anything. I've worked in a soup kitchen for about 2 years now, I know it's not like you see Tyler Durdens walking around all day. I think, if I were to actually do this, I would probably drop everything- cell phone, money, contacts, etc, and go on the opposite side of the country. I would do it right. But I'd be scared. Pretty much, the only thing stopping me from doing this is that I'm a puss and also, I have some credit hours to go that I can't just up and drop.

Re: Becoming homeless...
Some guy at Amherst did this. I think my my Aunt was in his class. What he did was he rode freight trains across America with hobos and wrote his thesis on it. He eventually wrote a book on it too.
