What's some good experimental music?
I've been wanting to get into experimental music lately ever since I got Sung Tongs by Animal Collective. What are some other experimental bands I might like?

Re: What's some good experimental music?
If by experimental you mean avant guard, I highly suggest Frank Zappa. Never will be another man like him. Some songs I recommend:
Titties and Beer - not really out there, but very funny and it was the first song I heard from him.
Peaches En Regailia - Great instrumental
Andy-
This one has it all. A pretty rythmic song, for the bass especially. I believe one riff is done with only one note on the bass, but the rythm at which he picks them sounds wild.
Muffin Man - My favorite guitar solo
Another guy is Tom Waits. His stuff is just as bizzare (not so much in his early stuff though). He has a very deep, scratchy, voice. It reminds me of Howilng Wolf or Captian Beefheart. You can't go wrong with these songs:
Big In Japan - Guys from Primus are in here (Les Claypool mainly, not sure of the other two.
Tempation - His voice is fucking great.
Hill - Pretty wild here. My favorite song at the moment.

i like frank zappa and tom waits as much as anyone else but they arent really experimental, just a bit different.
i suggest Bogdan Raczynski, Girl Talk, Squarepusher, Daedelus, Owusu & Hannibal, Platinum Pied Pipers, Sun Ra, Machine Drum, and Dabrye. That's all different genres so if you don't like the first artist you check, don't stop there.

Re: What's some good experimental music?
It depends on how you look at 'experimental'. To me, its just general term of there style. Those guys are doing something never done before, thus going out on a limb and trying something new, experimenting.

Art of Noise. They are the ultimate experimental group in my opinion. Specificaly I would recomend the song Moments in Love.

Re: What's some good experimental music?
experimental music, do you mean music that is experimental for its genre, or music that is completely experimental altogether. i find that the latter gets pretty pretentious, and if it is any good most likely it will have already formed its own subgenre, because its different and original but also good.
i dunno i would just look into noise and ambient music, they're the most experimental sounding. then there's tons of experimental jazz and fusion, avant garde, minimal classical, new age etc.
