Default Blue Bars

After being a long time XP user changed to Ubuntu. After a lot of configuring my whole computer is the way I want it except for one part. I have blue and green vertical bars that run up and down my screen. I've checked my connection cables and I know for sure that isn't it. It dosn't happened on the boot just when the login screen loads and the desktop and such. How do I get rid of these blue and green vertical flickering/flashing bars on my screen?

can we get a screenshot or a video?
make sure you have the driver for your video card
if you dont
Code:
 sudo apt-get install automatix
run automatix and install said driver
after that you may need to reconfigure your xorg, conf file
Code:
 sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
then restart X

edit:i added bascially everything

A screen shot doesn't produce the bars on the image so it shows no problem.

I got nothing when I searched the automatix. I have an integrated video card so I couldn't just pop open my case and look. I tried reconfiguring my x and I got this far and I have NO idea what to do. Thank you for all your help.

scroll down and select the "intel' or "i810" driver, they both worked for me and i have the intel i915 integrated graphics controller as well
but since it automatically configured, im not sure thats your problem, and you dont really need automatix for that driver if you dont have an nVidea or ATI video card
automatix does make it a lot easier to install codecs though
heres a link to the .deb
