Does anyone else start to lose it when they don't have friendly social contact?
I do. It's been a few weeks now. It's wearing away at me. Making me feel weird.
Usually when I see a friend in the flesh for a few hours it's enough to last me a couple of weeks, usually a bit more, before I notice my thinking starts becoming weird and I start getting really lonely, erratic, moody, and losing my grip.
It's been about 4 weeks now. I'm not liking it at all. I'm moving to a new place soon, I really hope this shit doesn't happen there as well.
This happen to anyone else?
(Modz0rz this may be headshrinkers material so move it where you will)

Yeah, isolation does bad things to you. People get friends for a reason. Whatever they may say, that reason is the primal instinct to protect your sanity. Most of what we learn about how to be "human" comes from social interaction, spend to long away from that and you start to lose yourself. Be careful, we don't need any more fucked up people in the world.

Re: Does anyone else start to lose it when they don't have friendly social contact?
No.
The last friends I had reported me to the matron, claiming I was abusing my patients.
As I've said before, I'd rather live my life alone than have friends like that.
It does get better. You'll probably feel psychopathic for a few months, and then one day you'll wake up and feel totally happy just knowing you dont have to fake a smiley face all day.

Re: Does anyone else start to lose it when they don't have friendly social contact?
I know what you mean. I used to live with at least 5 other people so I was used to being able to say whatever I wanted and always have someone to talk to. Then I had an accident and I had to move somewhere else with only 1 person and I definately felt lonely. I broke up with my girl too because I didnt see any point to it anymore and just took as much dilaudid as possible. Then I healed and was back to the grind. Maybe you need more friends. My friends know me as a moody asshole so they should know you as such too and can understand why you're a dick all the time. There's nothing wrong with needing someone to bitch to and I do it fairly regularly (bout once a day). It's good for you

Re: Does anyone else start to lose it when they don't have friendly social contact?
I do....
I THRIVE on social interaction.....thats why I go to the gym, the store, college, and I hang out with friends alot as well....
I just got out of about a year long relationship where i used to hang out with the same girl ALL THE TIME! Needless to say she kinda grew on me.
Not having her around is like a breath of fresh air. Although i still miss her when i wake up and when i go to sleep. That shit will pass though.

Yes. I would lose it.
This is why I was so incredibly fucked in the head when I was in high school. Keep the friends you have and if they ditch you, try to make better ones.

Re: Does anyone else start to lose it when they don't have friendly social contact?
Hi, I'm Nathan. Let's be friends.
I've been isolated for about twelve weeks. The only time I've seen people has been business transactions or school set ups. I've been thinking really weird thoughts lately. I keep seeing people following me, and I need to turn on the fan at night to drown out the sound of people walking around my house even when I'm completely alone.
My friends visited me last about a month and a half ago. It was fun, but I don't know. I've been trying to meet more people, but the more I go alone the weirder I get. Also, the insomnia I've been suffering is near-unbearable. It's been about three hours a night. I think I'm going nuts, I usually don't spam TOTSE with every problem I get, but I've been doing that a lot more than usual lately.

Go talk to people. Find some friendly contact.
It can be found most anywhere.

Re: Does anyone else start to lose it when they don't have friendly social contact?
lack of friendly social contact is my jerk off time.. im a miserable failure with women so a lot of time kickin it by myself is more gratifying haha.. sad as hell but ill take it.
as far as my friends i have a lot of good ones but they dont live around me anymore. i figure id rather be hangin with them than the chumps i meet at my junior college.
i guess im not there with you.. (now anyway)
gotta say tho get out of that funk before you hit the new place or you might just find yourself in a rut. try to make something happen for yourself. your quality of life is your own responsibility so take it seriously.

Re: Does anyone else start to lose it when they don't have friendly social contact?
Meh, I don't know why I'm wasting my time on this thread because chances are you'll just chalk it up to me flaming you because you don't like me. However, in the slim possibility that someday you may grow up and understand what I'm saying, I figured I'd throw a few ideas your way.
If you are "different" it is not society's obligation to open their arms to you and deal with your weirdness or quirks.
Now many people believe that people act a certain way on the internet to try and play a "role" of something they are not IRL. While I believe there may be some truth to that on dating sites and stuff, I myself think that on message boards you are seeing a pretty good slice of who that person is. So if someone comes off as a whiney asshole posting on Totse, chances are that is who they are offline as well.
Go reread some of your past posts and especially some of the flame wars you've gotten into. Is it REALLY because the whole world is conspiring against you, or are you just a whiney asshole? Most people don't go onto message forums and target complete strangers for no reason at all. So if you have more people in opposition to your thoughts/feelings/mindset on life, then there are in favor of it......then its time to look inward and figure out what the fuck it is that YOU are doing wrong.
Now go look at your thread with the admission to being uncomfortable looking people in the eyes. You may think that is some small nuance of your character, but the reality is the majority of the populace DO make judgements on people that are so unwilling to have eye to eye conversations. Whether its Grandpa, employers, potential mates, or the waitress serving you dinner....there IS a negative judgement made about you because you can't have NORMAL conversation like everyone else. They think of you as being shifty, deceptive, irritable.....a whole host of traits that people don't want to latch onto or put much trust into. Again, it is NOT the responsibility of the masses to make you feel better about yourself and your quirks contrary to normal standards......instead if you want to live a productive and fulfilled life there are certain societal obligations you have to live up to in order to become well liked.
No, moving away is NOT going to change your situation in the least. You are what you are, and eventually the real you comes out no matter what environment you are in. Its like the old saying......."you can take the guy out of the gutter, but not the gutter out of the guy". Unless you look INWARD at your faults and inadequacies, and want to make legitimate CHANGES about your personality......then no geographic change is going to help your cause in the least.
Simply put.....if you have a LOT of friends with tons of respect for you, there is a reason for that. Just like if you have very little friends with hardly any respect, there is a reason for that too. You are what you are.....only you can change it, and it is NOT the obligation of everyone else to make you feel more secure or welcome if you aren't a likable person.

I have friendly contact....er....sorta. Brief friendly words with flatmates, and on the internet. But it's really not the same. It's not communication where I can be at ease and feel like I'm truly talking. You know?

Re: Does anyone else start to lose it when they don't have friendly social contact?
Well, I always saw you as just a troll, but what the hell, I'll bite;
If you are "different" it is not society's obligation to open their arms to you and deal with your weirdness or quirks.
Never said it was. Hence why I made the thread about eye contact, and sundry other stuff. I'm trying to figure it out.
Haha, not really. You may see this thread is whining, that's fine. I want advice, I want feedback, not pity. You say I should improve myself, well that's what I'm trying to do, but I could use a little direction.
Go reread some of your past posts and especially some of the flame wars you've gotten into. Is it REALLY because the whole world is conspiring against you, or are you just a whiney asshole? Most people don't go onto message forums and target complete strangers for no reason at all. Flame wars? I am not exactly the flaming type. We must have definitions of what flaming is, some people can't handle arguments and debate and have to take shit personally.
And when did I say the whole word was conspiring against me? I am looking inward, hence this thread isn't "man I fucking hate people everyone sucks".
I'm not going to change who I am to appeal to more people though. Maybe give some thought to how I socialise and prevent myself, but I'm staying true to myself.
Again, it is NOT the responsibility of the masses to make you feel better about yourself and your quirks contrary to normal standards......instead if you want to live a productive and fulfilled life there are certain societal obligations you have to live up to in order to become well liked.
I never said it was socieities obligation to adapt to me. Hence why I made a thread about how to make eye contact, so I can adapt to society. Because I simply don't know how eye contact is supposed to go.
If I expected people to adapt to me and didn't realise the eye contact thing was a hindrance, I wouldn't have bothered with the thread.
I'll repeat again, I am looking inwards. And you're damn right I'm going to be me whereever I go, I don't want to be or try to be anyone else. I want to present myself better and understand how social situations work better, but I am staying me whether people like it or not.
I have many friends with alot of respect for me. Unfortunately, none of them are in this shit hole town, they're scattered around the country.
The problem with me isn't so much making friends. It does happen eventually. The problem is I present myself in such a way that it takes ages for people to get used to my quirks and figure out when I'm joking and to be less weirded out by me, that it takes such a long time to make friends. Hence the threads. The friends I have now tell me I must be a good person inside to have them, it's the fact that it takes so long and people oft get the wrong idea about me that I'm working on.

Re: Does anyone else start to lose it when they don't have friendly social contact?
Yes, and it happens too often for comfort. It's near-constant that someone's leaving, I've lost twenty or so friends over the last year or two. Another one is going off today, but oh well.
