| Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net. |

Is my ISP censoring me?
Well I'm not too network savy, so maybe some of you here can help me.
I was having trouble accessing a sports betting website that I use. For the past few days I could not access it. I would get a connection reset message.
Then, just a few minutes ago, I decided to see what would happen if I tried to access it through a proxy site.... and bingo, it worked.
So what do you guys think is happening here? Any theories?
I am in Vancouver, Canada, and I use Shaw highspeed lite.
Thanks

Re: Is my ISP censoring me?
Restart your modem/router/computer and report back. Happens to me and that seems to fix it.

Re: Is my ISP censoring me?
Try downloading Torpark and see if you can access the site through that. If you can access the site through it, then that most likely means that your ISP is censoring you.

Re: Is my ISP censoring me?
Try pinging the site if you get request time out errors it may mean your site is down or ISp is not letting you to connect that site.
Follow ORLY advice and Mutant Funk Drink too but i would recommend that you do some testing before doing something radical.

I really miss those incest stories in SG. They were entertaining and funny.
I hope they are saved somewhere.

This is uncle sirholkms thoery: Ok listen up, the website you are trying to access is down right, so get this. Some proxy servers store copys of web sites people vist on them to save loading time so I'm guessing that you gut lucky and picked a proxy server that has a chached version of that site. Bahhh ha ha harr.....

Re: Is my ISP censoring me?
Look around on their website in privacy agreement, terms and conditions, etc for anything on this type of action. If you are still indecisive, just call and ask them; its not like they are going to lie to you.

Re: Is my ISP censoring me?
Take the url of the site, and type it in on coolwhois.com
Find the phone number of the site owner on there, and call him and ask "wtf".
