Default Concerning matters in Set the Style

When the forum began a few days ago, it was very comfortable and posters were very freely sharing opinions and ideas on their own style and what they thought of other's. Recently, sambob has discovered this forum and has since posted in basically every thread, and been quite 'intimidating' towards other posters, bringing a whole different vibe into the forum.

I have noticed there has not been as much posting, as the posters seem to feel like posting anything unusual or to the distaste of mod in question will result in intrusive and stand-offish comments.

Having moderated a fashion forum for two years, wires knows that the most pleasant way to go about posting in such a forum is as you would as a regular member, but keeping it clean for the whole site to njoy and feel comfortable in. Set the Style is not SG, and isn't the place for personal comments of a prickly nature.

sambob has also been, with the agreement of others, 'stepping on the toes' of the official moderators of that forum by posting in almost every thread, and making a poll that rabbhimself or wires should be making, if anyone.
rabbhimself is very knowledgeable around his area of interest in clothing and style, and wires comes from a fashion background and has also moderated a well known fashion forum for a number of years. They are quite capable of 'keeping the forum going' and making polls of this nature to gauge the opinion of totse users on the forum, and should be respected enough to be left to their appropriate tasks while others are left to theirs.

This thread makes me sad. Although you have every right to post it here, wouldn't it have been better to email sambob first? (I apologise in advance if you've already tried that).

Also it might have been better coming from the forum mods themselves.

Yeah I guess he has been throwing himself about a bit.

But if he likes ugly shoes, that's his decision :)

In all seriousness, I like the fact that it's another person posting in the forum, but maybe chill out a bit?

I really don't see the issue as long as he isn't "backseat moderating" so to speak.

Perhaps Euda is making point that it's a new forum, and he's possibly scaring people off?

I think the word you're looking for is patronising.

And telling Sam isn't going to make the slightest bit of difference haha.

I've noticed him being unnecessarily critical and hostile in there on occasion. Over-bearing would be the word. One regular's told me in conversation that they feel a bit intimidated by him in there, enough to not want to post threads. It wouldn't be such a problem if it wasn't such a new forum, but as it is it would be a shame to discourage people from posting in there.

Sam, if the mods of the forum feel it's a problem, maybe you could try to step back a bit? I'm sure any mod causing a problem in AR&R or OI would extend the same courtesy to you.

The person you really need to be looking out for is Infectedgoose, he may seem harmless, but he lurks in the grass like a snake...THEN he strikes!

This is stupid.
For years there have been regulars who have actually really been fucking up threads and forums, and we all know who the main offenders are.
Yet do we do anything about them? No.

Dont you think we should sort out the regulars before picking on the moderators?

I understand where you're coming from, but that's assuming that as moderators, and moderators alone we're somehow better than the regulars...As nice as it is to think about it that way, at the end of the day we're all people on the Internet.

And I wouldn't be as fussed, but it's a new forum, we need to be encouraging people to post there.

The mods of the forum haven't said anything to me. I've had some great conversations in that forum so far and am having a good time.

No moderation has been done in the forum so I dont see how I could be stepping on moderators toes.

I posted that poll because I was curious, not for any 'official moderator business' reason.

If I was a regular user would you be posting a thread in Spurious saying "Sambob is posting too much in Set The Style"?

This is absolutely absurd, its a brand new forum and Ill be damned if I can't post in it.

I'm posting in Set The Style in no different style than I post in other forums.

I can't believe I'm reading such a silly thread as this.

Actually, no I'm not going to chill out any more. I'm so chilled I'm afraid if I chill out anymore I might reach dangerously low temperatures.

I don't see what you're talking about really though. In fact rabbihimself YOU PERSONALLY ASKED ME TO POST A THREAD IN THAT FORUM.

In the footwear thread when I posted about my interest in customising sneakers and making sneakers... you asked if I could post about my repair job on a pair of Skechers I mentioned.

So make up your mind.

And the only time I have said something 'moderatorish' in a thread, was this thread right here, and rabbihimself agreed with me in the NEXT POST:

It is a simple request.

If you can't do it, then you can't do it.

Yeah, I've asked you to post a thread explaining the restoration of trainers as I think it would be very helpful to others.

But you've still been mildly arrogant. No denying that.

As for 'no moderation', several threads have been locked and two stickied...That's all that has been required, I'm sure me and wires are holding fort well.

Even in this thread you're showing a bad side.

Yeah thats what I mean, its not a hard forum to moderate its not like you need my help thats for sure.

And you're god damn right I'm arrogant. I don't talk about things unless I know enough about them to be ignorant.

Shit I cant abandon my moderator mentor in a time like this.

Dude, I think YOU would get a bit tetchy if people started having a go at you, especially people who were meant to be part of the same 'team' as you!
I deffinately would!

Perhaps there can be some sort of peacefull agrement in this thread? That would be awesome.

I like everyone on totse, atleast the moderators, and it's really upsetting when people fall out over the silliest of things.

:(

There's no falling out here yoyo, as far as I know. It's a discussion.

sam and I have known each other for quite a while, although we haven't spoken recently.

totse is all about discussion. The sam I remember was always up for a discussion on any topic, even himself.

Eh I wouldnt worry about it so much, its not really a big deal.

If the actual complaint is just that I'm arrogant, well sorry, I am, get over it.

Keep in mind I would never be arrogant about something I didn't know anything about.

You don't see me being arrogant talking about American football, you'll see me being arrogant talking about boxing (well and in the ring too I AM AN ASSHOLE!!), because thats what I know about.

I know about fashion. So hell yeah I'm going to talk about it. Many of the people who have posted in this thread call tell you I have been interested in fashion for years, I used to bore #totse to sleep all the time talking about clothes.

The problem's not that you're arrogant in there, it's that you're arrogant to the point of discouraging other posters. Nobody asked you to stop posting, just to have a little courtesy and act in accordance with the wishes of the mods of that forum, which surely isn't too much to ask.
