Vegetables Ahoy!
Or not as the case is for me.
Recently I've decided to stop boozing it (4 double vodkas before your shift at 1pm is too much) and start eating better. I'm not concerned with fancy recipies and all that jazz, I'm just after a list of some highly nutritious vegetables I can cook up in bulk, slap in a container and eat the next day, or for the next few days. I generally love vegetables so the taste isn't a problem, I just want to ge eating two to three portions of them with each meal sitting. Thus, I need to know some awesome ones I can cook and cram down in bulk.
Cheeeeers guys .

Re: Vegetables Ahoy!
Broccoli and spinach. Spinach is very high in Iron, which is pretty good for you. And broccoli just tastes nice.
I allways have problems eating vegetables because I find them too bland and such, so some of that cheap gravy powder on them makes them taste a bit better. Just not too much or it wont be so good for you!
If you're going to be boiling up a load to eat the next day, if you must do this instead of cooking them when you want them, remember to keep them in container and in water so they dont dry out and go rank.
What's wrong with Double vodkas before work?
Or perhaps as a cook I'm meant to be pissed all the time and this isnt actually normal behaviour. :S
Anyway it's cool that you're wanting to better yourself, and it's good that you posted HERE this time instead of RY. I wont mention that thread of recipes that you posted there, you fucking cheater...

Re: Vegetables Ahoy!
i LOVE vegetables. with the weather getting cooler (it is here at least), i'm getting back into roasting vegetables. sweet potatoes, capsicum, red onion, baby eggplant and zucchini, with some whole unpeeled garlic, drizzled with olive oil, S&P, perhaps a sprig of rosemary then into a hot oven until it's all deliciously roasted and caramelised on the edges. sometimes i slice haloumi cheese at this point and put it on top then back in the oven to brown it.
they're a really good way of getting vegies into your diet, go well with a heap of things. if you want something a little bit more basic, you might want to invest in a steamer, it's a really quick easy way to cook vegies and retain their goodness. i always like broccoli, can be tossed into a pasta with some garlic/olive oil/sliced toasted almonds, or just served with a grilled meat.
spinach is also really good (and versatile). very healthy, barely needs cooking - mixing it with something else that's hot wilts it enough. or just toss it into a salad.
oh! get some corn on the cob! it's not only tasty, it's fun to eat! cook it in the husk, on the bbq. mmm... i haven't had that since summer...
there's probably no need to cook all the vegies and keep them in your fridge, cooked. it's easy enough to cook enougheach time you need them, if they even need cooking.

That's so hot.
You're in australia, right?
I'll be there in around 19 hours.
Ooh, more on topic,
Have any of you guys tried that V8 juice stuff, that claims to be loads of vegetbales mushed up, nothing else?
To me it tastes rather like cold tomato soup. I had to resist the urge to heat it up and serve it with croutons and slabs of bread and butter.
Word of warning though, do NOT drink 2 entire bottles thinking that they cant possibly contain as much vegetables as they claim to.
I almost pooped my intestines out.

Re: Vegetables Ahoy!
I haven't tried those yet but i must say I'm a big fan of those little innocent smoothies. A little pricey for their size, but they're just pressed fruit and nothing else added. Most of them contain 150% ish of your rda of vitamin whatever depending on the smoothie, and count as 2 portions of fruit/veg out of the five you're supposed to be getting day.
Tasty little buggers. I ususally get three or four at a time because I'm a glutton and like how they taste too much.
