Default I don't think regulars know enough about infractions

Okay I might be wrong but read on and we'll see.

It seems to me that everytime a infraction is given out shit hits the fan in a small yet irritating way.

The way I see it, posters that used to do stupid things under the old system had their posts editted or threads locked or deleted. Where necessary a mods best judgement was put into place to determine whether or not said poster got the arse.

Now what do we have? Little asshole that are (again in my opinion) getting off easier then ever before. Isn't an infraction a means of saying "do that again and watch out!"

However they get an infraction and they'll do one or more or all of the following

a) Hurl abuse at you through the use of a neg rep
b) Take it to Bitch & Moan
c) Email the person who did it and ask for justification (the best approach I feel)
and/or
d) Take it to Zok of perhaps MLoR (yes?? Acidmelt?? Jeff even??) who most likely have no clue what they are talking about or don't want to know about it

It's pissing me off no end. Maybe I'm becoming a hardass but it is of my opinion thatanyone telling the totse community how a mod has 'wronged' them is conveying personal information (well it is, its the business between them and the mod that layed it down)...an infractionable offence.

Any thoughts here?
Perhaps someone could spell this to them in a sticky in SG or something maybe ones needed in B&M too??

I think that would make the problem worse, not better.

I think a lot of people would be - justifiably, I think - angry about such an offense. They'll just bitch all the more and get others to hop on the bandwagon.

I don't see that many people bitching about it in B&M, but then that's part of why the forum is there isn't it?

But then I don't Mod B&M - and I know you do - so that might change my view too. SO....

Are you serious?

I mean, your post seems serious, but I just don't see how you could honestly see that as "posting personal information". You DO understand what personal information is, right?

This worries me. I REALLY hope you're not giving people infractions for that, or anything equally crazy.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, why does it matter to you if someone complains about an infraction (to you, the community, or even the super mods)? If it was fair, why does it bother you if other people hear about it? I really don't see the point of this entire thread.

If I seem harsh, I'm sorry, but I'm just confused. If you're in the right, who cares if the person goes to the super mods, or makes a thread in B&M about it? It's not really something to worry about, and it DEFINITELY isn't something that justifies another infraction. That's just insane, man.

I agree. Why take an issue to a supermod when the situation could be easily resolved by talking to the moderator who gave you the infraction?

Bitching about mods in B&M is normal..but whingeing to someone with power is the new fashion, because they feel that by doing this, they can get the moderator de-modded.

I'm wondering if the supermods have noticed an increase in the amount of emails they get from regulars..?

Well I know Zoks email got flooded when the email fucked up but I dunno about this.

And it's just a concept.

I personally am sick of the moronic series of events that spawns from a little discipline around here. As I pointed out, if it's not yet another stupid thread in B&M trying to get people on their side, it's abusive rep comments, assholes following you around the forums ruining every thread you post in, the fucking grudges, emails, getting others involved, complaining to those higher up the ranks.

It's tolerable to an extent but draw a line man.

I too am suprised by the extent of hatred that's been directed at mods recently.
People allways joke that the intrnt isnt srs bsns, but if it isnt, why do they get so pissed off at a mods?

Well whatever. Some of the Emails I've received, from people I've never spoken to,never infracted, never closed a thread of, are just plain silly.:)

People will always whine, bitch and complain if they get disciplined; people did it when their threads were locked or posts edited under UBB and they do it when they get infracted in vBul. Doing so isn't anywhere close to being infractionable, that's just saying "I don't like what you're saying so I want you banned for it", which is about as contrary to Totse's spirit as you can get. The line shouldn't be drawn just because it's annoying; I'd love to have a fair few people banned who've been harassing me and others, but short of keeping a close eye out for them actually breaking the rules, there's nothing we can do because they're not doing anything wrong.

It's not that much of a problem, anyway. Negative rep? They can give it once every week or two. Threads in B&M? Don't read them. People following you around? Don't reply to them. They're not going to ruin a thread with one ignored comment. There's not a whole lot regulars can do to piss us off if we don't rise to it.

Recently? Hah! Welcome to modship, guys. :D

EDIT: Trousersnake, I'm still wondering if you were serious in your first post. Anyway, no matter what you do, people will complain. You'll either get used to it, or give up and stop being a moderator. I know you haven't been modding for long, but you should have expected this just from seeing how much people bitch about other mods.

The only hate I'm feeling so far is from buttthrax. But he hated me anyway. :p

Although obviously I've yet to taste SG. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)
