Post Food dehydrators ZOMG

Do you own one? What do you do with it?

My favorite thing to do is dehydrate pieces of fruit like sour apples with cinnamon and a bit of maple syrup dropped on top.

Works very well with wild gourmet mushrooms found in the field, and I would imagine this can also apply to drying psychoactive ones (on a low heat setting.)

These things are also good for drying fresh herbs like basil and parsely when you know you won't use them for awhile.

In my experience, bananas do not turn out to tasty, so I would recommend sticking to sweet or sour fruit.

Something tells me no one here has one of these or cares, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

New ideas couldn't hurt.

Typical food dehydrators COOK at a low temp with moving air so therefore they do NOT dehydrate by rule.

Dehydrating food happens at a mild temp. Dry cool air is best for dehydrating. (Why you get so dehydrated during the winter).

Build your own! What you need:
1.) 20" box fan (get a cheap one)
2.) Cellulose (paper) air conditioner / furnace filters (20"x20")
3.) a couple of bungee cords to secure the filters to the fan.

That is all you need. Best beef jerky prep method ever!

Stack the filters together with whatever you are dehydrating. Bungee them to the front of the fan. Lay fan down on surface that allows unrestricted air flow. Let 'er rip!

Dehydrated food kicks butt!!!

That sounds like a really bad idea.
Flamable stuff+hot stuff = really bad badness, atleast in the house of yoyo.

I might look out for a real one though, especially if it means an unlimited source of beef jerky.

I wonder what you have to do in preperation of making beef jerky before dehydrating it. I must know the answer!

Well, it has an insane mode for jerky, but I only keep at at about 100 degrees on the "herb" setting.

Good at dehydrating them by circulating the air or I guess you could make easy bake muffins with it or something if you put mine on turbo.

I think they run around 40$ or so, but I think the quality and price vary.. so... google.

No, actually they are insanely expensive. Mine runs about $115.

So, in conclusion, unless you want to save lots of weird things like me, snappittoaslimjim

What was flammable there my dear Yoyo? And what was hot? A fan and some filters does not equal flammable nor hot.

And yes, Good Eats is only the best food show on tv. You should try the "Who loves ya" Baby back ribs Alton did. OMFG!!!

Maybe I've just got faulty wiring in my appartment, but when I use fans in the summer my god you could fry eggs on the base of the fans. Oo

But then, I have the magical powers to be able to set fire to a candle. No,not the wick, the actual candle.
