Default Healthy sausages?

Ok, so I'm a poor bastard right? And sausages are pretty cheap, so I often eat them. The ones I get are 90% beef and around 4% fat...that's pretty decent isn't it?

Anyway, what's the best way of cooking sausages? I have been frying them in a bit of canola oil to begin with, then I prick them and cook them them in their own fat for a while (I do empty out the pan accouple of times though).

Basically I'd like to cook them the healthiest way I can, any suggestions?

grill them. No extra fat required. And by grill I mean place UNDER a hot grill, not on top of it.

Grilled would be healthy.

Also, don't prick the holes in the casings. Cook them all the way through without cutting them open or poking them, but let them sit for a few minutes on a plate. They'll be juicier this way.

But won't they have more fat?

Not really. You're mostly going to be losing juices. If the sausages were a higher percentage of fat, then poking them would release some melted fat, but at four percent the amount of fat lost will be minimal, and most of the liquid coming out of those holes are just going to be natural juices from the meat.

I'm horrified by the amount of fat and greese than can come out of a sausage.
As an experiment once, I put one on a metal tray under a grill, but at an angle so all the fat in the sausage would go down the angle.
After around 20 minutes the fat was literally pouring over the edge of the metal tray.

I do love sausages. I ruin them completely when I cook them myself by putting them in a cup and then in the microwave. I then tip out the fat every few minutes and blast them till they're crunchy.
Oooh..

Crunchy cheap sausages might actually be edible. I think I'll try that.

leh, sausages will never be healthy! m boyfrend once deep fat fried some cheap sausages, stuck them in a baguette with a tonne of cheese and nuked it. the grease made my eyes hurt and i wsn't even eating it! he had a head ache from all the grease and fat!

try veggie sausages or just none at all. i had no idea how much fat was in those jarred hot dogs, like twice as much fat as thre is protein!

um, yeah, grill them.
