Stop infracting people in my forums for me!
I'm not naming any names... yet. If this happens again, you can be sure to see a few names flying around.
So in two of my forums I've seen mods infracting people for things that A) Don't warrant an infraction and B) were NOT in their forums. Please stop doing this. I'm getting emails and IMs from the people infracted asking why they were infracted. The fact that they have to ask why tells me that it was for a bad reason. One was for "multiple accounts" - The user emailed me and told me the following: "I have multiple accounts but I do NOT post on more than one of them" I checked into it and it looks like he's telling the truth (also he's been here for a LONG time and I've never known him to cause any trouble). The other incident was "Spam" which it clearly was NOT. The user quoted someone in the thread and replied with something stupid like "buttsecks" or something of the nature. That's not spam in my mind or in my forum.
If any of you have a problem with something that's going on in my forum, please ask me on IRC or through email before taking action. I'm here every day and there's no reason that anybody needs to moderate my forums for me.
I try my hardest to not step on anyone's toes while being a super mod. In fact, I don't even close or move threads that I think should be moved because I know the moderators in those sections may moderate differently than I do and may not consider it spam at all (unless there's a real issue at hand), so please extend the same courtesy to me?

Re: Stop infracting people in my forums for me!
Heh. I'm glad you feel that way about it, too. Makes me feel like less of a jerk for not wanting people giving out infractions in the forums I mod.
It is a pain trying to explain to people why they got infracted when you don't even know yourself.

Re: Stop infracting people in my forums for me!
I think infractions are being overused, personally. Heck, I think a really extraordinary event warrants an infraction. There are times when I could give an infraction, but I just close the thread and be done with it. Infractions can breed animosity, so why give them out regularly?

I agree completely.
I've only given out one so far, to someone posting advertisements all over the forum, and that was really just to test out the feature. :/ It's just like with the old software, I haven't had to resort to getting someone banned since... Well, I can't even remember!

Re: Stop infracting people in my forums for me!
If it were intended that infractions could only by moderators in their respective forums, Jeff Hunter would have made it happen. The only thing that needs to improve is the general understanding of what kind of material warrants an infraction.

True, but it might also be a default setting that he's never changed.

I entirely agree with this part. If it's questionable, leave the person negative rep instead.

Re: Stop infracting people in my forums for me!
I hope to god you're not refering to the infractions I gave out yesterday.
I went out of my way to infract via the user profile and NOT via your forum.

Re: Stop infracting people in my forums for me!
I can see quite a few situations in which it would be necessary to infract in someone else's forum, so I think disabling the option might not be fore the best. For instance, if someone were to post an empty or otherwise blank thread in my forum and someone other mod infracted them for it. I might be pissed off until I find out that the person had done it in 7 other forums as well. Then it's just one moderator taking the initiative to infract the user so that the they will have a temp ban. This could be quite handy during post floods, especially when the mods of those sections aren't on.
But at the same time, I don't think a user's fate should be in the hands of one moderator who's taking such an initiative.
Like I said, I'm not angry, just annoyed. And I think that I'd be slightly less annoyed had someone mentioned to me that they were giving infractions in my forums. I read my email every day and I'm constantly on IRC unless my internet is out. If PMs were enabled for moderators, that would have been the ideal way of contacting me (Yeah.. that was a hint :) ).
Jack: Sorry, not you this time. I'll yell at you for something next time, though :)

Re: Stop infracting people in my forums for me!
I gave two infractions to suck my dog cock (https://www.totse.com/community/member.php?u=222320), he'd been spamming all day (he signed up on the day), and I left it a while, then in IFIOTW he posted something along the lines of:
"All people are racist because black people done _____ to their mother".
(Minus grammar and spelling)
Then later on in SB (what you could be annoyed about), I gave him another for posting yet another piece of spam (since he didn't take the hint from before, and I gathered it was a spam account), this led to a temp ban (as MLoR had picked up on him aswell).
A few of the regulars agree what I did was good.
Any issues, please tell me about them :)

Yeah, me too. But I don't think I've infracted anybody outside of my forum[s] in a while - at least not intentionally [I caught myself a couple of times doing it, but I reversed the infractions].

Re: Stop infracting people in my forums for me!
You're talking about me, correct? I gave the hater an infractions for multiple accounts because he admitted to having multiple accounts.
I'm don't know why he went to you though, I'm the one that gave him the infraction.
But point taken, no more infraction-ing in your forum :P

Re: Stop infracting people in my forums for me!
haha, I like how everyone think's I'm talking about them when I'm not. Either way, I'm not making this thread to bitch at anyone, I'm making it to bitch at everyone. I just think we could all be a bit more considerate of each others' forums and with how liberal we are with infractions.
