I think I'll pass this time and I'll just keep an eye on STS for now.

Me modding SG now would be like putting a new zoo keeper in with the lions.

Should I just write a script that picks five mods at random on the first of each month and assigns them to SG? Everyone gets a turn...

Yes, zok wants the old faces removed. Not because of anything bad, but just a change.

The automatic setup is a good idea, if I'm not included in it. :p

I don't like to speak for others, but sometimes a quick answer is best.

I think an auto setup would be better picking exclusive of duplicates. What I mean is, don't just pick at random, because that will inevitably lead to some people getting picked more regularly than others. If you did it like that you'd be better having a list of mods, picking at random for the SG mods, then removing those mods. Then pick again, remove again. Repeat until there's not a full set of mods left, then add those mods to SG and reset the list, picking enough at random to make up numbers and removing those in the first move. That make sense? :p That way everyone gets a go, they just don't know when. :D

Anyway, if the old faces want to go, and you don't have anyone else gullible enough, I'll do it. I just didn't want to seem like a power whore :p

You've got a good idea deus, but I don't see the issue with how it is, if people want it, they get asked, if they don't, they can avoid it.

I like this idea, but like deus said, there should be some kinda system.

Don't you have a list somewhere of all the mods, how about that list get's done from top to bottom and then again?

Yeah, I'm fine with the current system. I was just saying, if we went with an automatic system, that's how I think it should be.

As it stands I can't see everyone wanting SG. Tends to get you hated. :p

I wouldn't do a random script simply because some mods are more active than others, and will thus be less useful in a high traffic form. I say just continue to ask for volunteers; it's worked so far.

I like this idea a lot. It would take a lot of work off my shoulders being the one who's been keeping the list of mods to rotate in. Also it'll be less work for you (not having to add/remove mods every month).

I'd say that all the mods should be replaced by new ones. This is the discussion we had about it a few weeks ago: http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?p=8229437&postcount=51

Personally I would like to stay longer if I could.

What some people say about me does have a ring to truth to it. That is, since I am disabled, I have a lot of extra time.

And while I know there's some in SG who would love to see me replaced, I think most like having me there [especially since I've mellowed out after the switch to vb and Zok pointing out that some in SG think I'm an asshole - not that I wasn't already aware of it :D].

If I must go I of course will without any bitching and screaming. But if it is at all possible I would like to stick around if I can.

GOD!!
Does SG NEVER STOP?!!?

I have been mod of that forum for going on 15 hours now, and every time I look, there is more spam, more threads to be moved and closed, more flaming and spam and then some more threads to be moved and closed on top of all that.

I mean...when are SG mods meant to sleep?
Is this like One flew over the cuckoos nest, am I going to start growing lobotomy scars..?

I'll do my best though, and when I die, I want this on my gravestone:

I think the automated script is a bad idea. SG needs active mods that are familiar with the forum. If five mods of lower-traffic forums that aren't on Totse too often and don't post in SG get rotated in, the forum would get spammed to hell. The volunteer system works well and there's not really a shortage of applicants.

For the random mod rotation script, I say it should pick the 4 most active moderators on totse. Those with the most posts, timed every month. Then next month, it cant choose anyone whos already been there in the last 2 months.
For example, every first of the month, the script starts counting posts by mods. At the end of the month, it checks the mods posts and selects the top 4 mods, but not those who have been already selected in the past 2 months.

Not only will that cover the issue on active mods, but it would also not choose the same mods over and over.

...just a thought. I don't know much about writing vB scripts, so I don't know how hard that would be.

Well, like Sambob said, as long as the list from which the SG mods are randomly picked doesn't include those that aren't willing to mod there, it sounds like a good idea.

There's no way I'm modding SG again (I can't even stand to browse it anymore, honestly). It wasn't so bad at first, but you can only close the exact same threads so many times before you go crazy and start drooling and punching anything within reach.
