Default A new list of shit for Jeff to do

So here's the source thread for most of these suggestions: http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=2000823

The actual suggestions/problems are:

1) Suggestions for new forums/subforums: Subforums in T&T (and a few other places that I'm sure someone will post here shortly). New forum ideas: Clothing/Fashion, Growing forum (maybe a subforum of BLTC?), and a News Forum (possibly a subforum of Politics). An education forum http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=1994993 (since the vast majority of totse is in some sort of schooling system).

// 2) Remove Anonymous reputation: http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=2000415

3) Disallow moderators to from editing people's posts without filling out the "Reason for edit field" http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=2001807

4) A few suggestions about IMG tags: http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?p=8253336#post8253336

5) More of an FYI: I set up my own copy of vbul on my server to test out a few mods and hacks. I've been slowly making my way through all of them, but if there are a LOT. If there are any mods that you guys would like to see in action, let me know and I'll install them on my board so we know whether or not to bug Jeff about it :P - The list is huge: http://bbs.zoklet.net/showthread.php?t=166

6) Apparently page stretching is still possible. It involves putting lots of things in [b] tags right next to each other. I can't really demonstrate it without vbul interpreting it, so I swapped out the [b] tags for <b> since html is disabled on vbul. Here's a conversation I had on IRC:

[00:09] <missing_cipher> Where you aware that you could page stretch using the [b] tags?
[00:09] <Zok> What do you mean?
[00:10] <missing_cipher> I posted <b>GTFO</b> one right next to another a bunch of times thinking itd wrap it.. but it didnt, it page stretched.
[00:11] <Zok> So like <b>GTFO</b><b>GTFO</b><b>GTFO</b><b>GTFO</b><b>GTFO</b> ?
[00:11] <Zok> Or <b>GTFO</b> <b>GTFO</b> <b>GTFO</b> <b>GTFO</b> <b>GTFO</b>?
[00:11] <missing_cipher> yup
[00:11] <Zok> The first?
[00:11] <missing_cipher> yes, without spaces
[00:11] <Zok> ok
[00:11] <Zok> I'll let Jeff know

The other suggestions didn't seem as pressing, but if you'd like to see them they're in the source thread linked at the top. Also, there are a few inactive moderators who may need t be replaced soon. I think Pirate Hippie was amongst them. I'll find the list of others and post it tomorrow morning.

If anyone else has anything pressing to add to the list, don't hesitate. It's a lot easier to sort through a single list of things to do than it is to search through 2 forums (here and suggestions box).

I know that there was a moderator change someone notified me about recently involving napoleon_complex... looking for the chatlog now.

Wrong.

I did ask for that, but I changed my mind. I want to stay in moving pictures, Napoleon_Complex can be added as well.

And this is what I discussed with zok last week.

I want the question mark and sad face message icons back. The confused face, a mix of the sad and the question mark, isn't doing it for me :p

I would like to moderate Clean Tech if possible and if it is to stay. I could nominate Argonplasma2000 to be also, that is, if he is interested.

Added Set the Style and College Bound.

Does Growing really need a separate forum?

Would News be for discussing news of the day or dissecting the news media? Seems kind of... general.

Any interest in a Campaign Trail forum specifically for following electoral races?

// 2) Remove Anonymous reputation: http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=2000415

Done.

3) Disallow moderators to from editing people's posts without filling out the "Reason for edit field" http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=2001807

How?

4) A few suggestions about IMG tags: http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?p=8253336#post8253336

No changes made or planned.

I don't think a "Growing Forum" is necessary at all. I mean, we already have TGO, and 98% of the TGO traffic is gardening related...

As promised, here's a list of inactive mods. This time it's not nearly as bad as it usually is (sometimes I find a mod who's been afk for 8 or more months). This time around it's:

PyrohydroSmok 2007-04-29
studiousignorance 2007-05-07
lethargic 2007-04-09

Nobody's been away for more than a month or so. The other one would have been TheAtomiser, but I talked to him and he's posting again. If anyone knows where pyro, studious, or lethargic are, please notify them that they're in danger of being removed if they don't start posting again soon.

Sorry to be a prude...

I originally suggested the Education forum ( http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=1995716 ), and would very much like to be a moderator of it, as I am very passionate about education and its many idiosyncracies.

I do not know PirateJoe, so I am not saying he/she is qualified or not, but would love to co-mod with him/her.

about that news forum. I don't think it would be general. It would actually be for people to post news they found on the web.

Now you've got people posting really intresting news stories in SG and IFIOTW, but they really don't get the attention they deserve often.

Also, in major events, such as Vtech massacare and such, SG just gets flooded with news articles. If we'd have a news forum, people could search for current news[/] more easily.

Also, I'm somebody who is on Totse, lot's of the time, I also don't bother watching the [B]news. Now if totse would have a news forum, I could just check out current events on totse, without having to leave it!

Please Jeff, make this happen!

Jeff, I wouldn't mind being one of the mods for Clean Tech. If not then Trousersnake would be a excellent
choice.

Also a News Forum would be great. It would be a nice addiction to totse.

lethargic is in training for the army reserves, or one of your armed force reserves. I'm not sure of studious, but he's an excellent fellow and unthinkably knowledgeable; his qualifications go beyond anything called for by a moderator. pyro, well...maybe he's busy have sex with another bagel. Confused

A news forum seems redundant to me. There are places to talk about any sort of current event already. As was said before, it would probably have a terribly American tilt to it.

Also, thanks for the attention; I'm sure this stuff can be tiresome with a heavy workload.

I would really appreciate being given a shot at CT. I know, I've just been modded for my first forum, and so it's probably not my place to go recommending myself, but CT is 1001% up my street.

TS and/or Dr. Ol Raw I know would also make excellent choices.

Oh! I missed this one: The search function does not work. When you search for anything (even things you KNOW have been posted) it turns up 0 results. I think that in the adminCP you need to go to: Maintenance->Update Counters->Rebuild Search Index

I had problems getting it to work initially on my copy of vbul, but our problems look different. I was getting database errors telling me that there was a missing column in one of my tables. I fixed that but the search function then started turning up no results instead of erroring. I ultimately had to update the Search Index. Maybe that will work here as well.

I'll second the list for LordValuemart. She's a regular on IRC as well, so any problems can be addressed quickly.

As for lethargic, he left for basic in the middle of april, and with an 8-9 week timeframe for that, he should be back within the month for an indetermined amount of time. After that, he's off to learn his trade and then to get shot in the dusty dunes of the desert.

The vBulletin search function works fine for me.

The search button up at the top of every page is supposed to search every page on the site, vBulletin and otherwise, using ht://Dig (http://htdig.org) software. It's been broken for the past year and a half. I actually know one way to fix it (install from source code), but that's not a good solution (any security holes might go unpatched for months), so I trying to find a better fix (make the installed-from-RPM version work right).

Sounds like a pretty good excuse for not logging in. Lethargic won't be removed for inactivity. If he wants to log in when he's not being shot at that's great, but he won't be removed due to inactivity. He'll always have a spot here.

Another thing, In the users note section of a posters profile, that's like a whole miniature forum in there.
What's stoping posters from putting private info of other posters, or harmfull links in there?

Unless we're going to be allowed access to moderation privelaged of the notes themselves, I think the note thing is in generall a very bad idea.

Oh yeah, while we're here, can anyone see if I've got any notes? do they say anything nasty?
