Default Problem with the ignore list

Okay, so i tried to add some people to my ignore list, but it gives me the error that I can't ignore mods and admins. I think we need to get this changed.

Yes. There are certain mods who I simply don't want to hear from outside of bringing me issues that I need to take care of. I don't see why we shouldn't be able to ignore other mods; if they need to bring a problem to my attention, they can do it through email.

I don't think mods or admins should ignore other members of the staff, personally. If you feel like it's a problem, contact the mods you have the problem with and discuss it with them, especially if you feel like you're being treated unfairly or attacked.

I don't think mods or admins should ignore anyone period, I mean how can you moderate a forum if you can't read what people post?

Well, it would be nice if the mods in question would act in a way that wouldn't require me to think about ignoring them.

I wouldn't be ignoring people posting in a forum I mod.

I just don't want past relationships to affect my position here, and I figure that ignoring a few people is most logical solution.

I can only think of a few instances where ignoring another moderator might be a good idea but I would hope that whatever the problem is can be resolved here or elsewhere before it must come to ignoring each other. I don't want a slippery slope scenario where a mod ends up ignoring a whole slew of people just because the option is available.

There are times when it could have been useful in the past; I believe someone suggested that tor and autopsy ignore each other when they were having their conflict a while back, of course we found that the option was not available.

So like I said, I can think of a few situations where ignoring someone might be for the best, but as moderators I think we should also be able to cope with who or whatever it is that is bothering you.

So I guess what I'm saying is: If it becomes available, I want a way of making sure that it does not get abused.

A dialogue about what's bothering you might be the best choice, either in private or within the forum.

I've always felt that an ignore function was somehow anti-totse. And more so for mods. As a mod I shouldn't be able to or want to ignore someones post....even someone as irritating as say Gus.

But having seen a thread involving MLoR and his past I do see why he'd want to ignore certain people.

Dunno, glad its not a decision i have to call.

I'd just rather not go into S&A one day and see a topic by Pirate Hippie talking about how great the sex is with her 28 year old fuck buddy or something like that.

You people actually think I'm wrong to not want to see that?

I got to read about lauren's 30 year old. It adds a certain level of distance to a past relationship, but I can see why you'd prefer to avoid something like that.

Couldn't this problem be solved by simply de-modding Pirate Hippie?

Let's be honest here, she never should have been made a mod to begin with.

No of course you're not wrong not to want to see it. Thats totally understandable.

But...and you can call me naive, I choose to believe that any one chosen as a super-mod has somehow shown themselves to be the best of totse, the cream. That Root knows you'll uphold that which makes totse totse and that which has stopped totse joining the legions of failed sites.

I can't somehow reconcile that with an ignore function.

You're absolutely right; I think that would be a much better option than using the ignore function. She isn't knowledgable about her subject, she goes days or weeks at a time without logging into totse, and keeping her as a mod there only generates extra spam for the forum. Based on these facts, I'm fully in support of demodding it.

I don't know much about her, as I don't visit Green Planet often, but judging only from what I've seen her post in other forums, I was pretty confused when she became a mod. But I'm sure a lot of people felt the same way about me (probably still do), so I guess I don't have much room to talk.

Anyway, I've seen a couple of posts by her in Green Planet when I browse now and then, but it's rare. I see a lot of people who post there more often and seem to know what they're talking about.

MLoR, if she is to be demodded then it needs to be made clear that the reasons are for her lack of modding otherwise there will always be a lingering ripple among the regulars (some of whom like her) that it was done for reasons of spite...which she will, no doubt, also proclaim.

She never deserved to be made mod there to begin with. I can say in complete honesty, that she doesn't know anything about the environment or the related scientific fields. I've actually read a post by her that denies human involvement in global warming. This is wouldn't be a new thing. Most of the Green Planet regulars were pissed when she was modded to begin with. I've personally been opposed to her being a mod since the beginning, and this was solely based on her intelligence(rather her lack there of) and ability to mod(she rarely posts in there, and I'd estimate that half of her posts lack any real content).

And I have the fun of reading about how happy Docta is with his beautifull pregnant girlfriend.

Fact of the matter is that I could ignore him. But this is totse, and I feel that it is our job to read whatever any poster has to say, incase it needs to be removed. If one more person posts Goatse I'm going to have a fucking fit.

As a Mod, I dont think we should be able to ignore anyone, as great as the function is.

However, there's nothing stopping us from pretending to ignore someone, is there?
I find that one of Gustaves smartest moves was whenever someone said something to piss him off, he'd comment on how great the ignore function is and we'd all have great fun 'ignoring' people. It's really fun to do that with people who'd otherwise ruin a thread.

If this is just a problem between you and Pirate Hippie, you've said herself that she often goes a long time without logging into Totse. It's been over a week since her last visit and she's posted in S&A three times in three months. I don't think you're very likely to have to see something from her in the forums that you'd rather not.

I'm pretty sure it's not just between you and her, though, and I'm also pretty damn sure that I'm one of the mods you have a problem with and would like to put on ignore. I gave you an invitation earlier in this thread to discuss it with me without being specific, I'm asking you outright now. After what happened in S&A last time I don't think I've overstepped my bounds at all in regards to you, and if I have I'd much rather have you tell me about it than try to put me on your ignore list.

By the way, the root of any problem I have with you is that I think you should extend the same courtesy to Pirate Hippie (another mod here) that you'd want her to extend to you; that is, to try not to post anything unnecessarily hurtful which she might not want to hear.

I can assure, no reputable scientist would say that humans have no impact on global warming.

She's just an idiot that knows nothing about the forum which she mods.

And might I add, I've been here since 2003, I feel I should have the right to say what I damn well please. If she doesn't want to hear it, and if we eventually get the option, she's free top ignore me if she so chooses. I'd just rather see her give up on Totse, though, since she has nothing positive to offer anyway.

She used to post on S&A sometimes, never managed to get up my nose but i've read reams and reams about how she doesn't have the knowledge to mod her current forum...i mean read stuff from totseians I respect and who aren't the usual suspects.

Uhm not quite, obviously threads like this stay here in their entirety.

But there is a case for things like "we mods are discussing this issue at the moment" or "Root has asked us to..."

But who said what when is of course to be kept private. Thats my 0.02p

However if i feel it was posted to hurt MLoR then I would delete it. That falls under the FAQ rules of 'try to be nice to one another' as far as I can see.

S&A and totse in general isn't there for personal vendettas IMO.

MLoR, I wasn't trying to pick a fight with you, I genuinely thought I was one of the people you had a problem with. If I'm not, I'm very surprised, but I guess I misjudged the whole thing and should apologise. I thought I had pretty good reasons for making that assumption, though.
