Modding a different forum
I was wondering if I could mod perhaps a different forum. I am thinking "Money Money Money" since it is probably what I am most knowledgeable in, and that forum wasn't around when I was made mod though it is probably what i am more knowledgeable in, rather than 'Bad Ideas'.
I can continue with mod of Bad Ideas, but I would rather also mod something I am interested in, it will keep me coming back here. Mods in Bad Ideas tend to 'burn out' kind of quickly, a bit like SG. I am happy to continue where I am but I think I would be more useful elsewhere.

Re: Modding a different forum
Are you really 'qualified' to be a moderator in Money Money Money? Its not like people are made moderators for their moderating ability, its an easy job. We're made moderators because we have knowledge about a particular subject. If you don't want to moderate BI anymore, I don't see that theres any reason why yo ushould be automatically placed somewhere else.
Of course I do nt know you at all, I was mainly just saying this point to say it. I see too much of this attitude from people like, since they're a mod, they can just mod anywhere, or maybe just that people seem so secure in their position as a moderator (even if they aren't very good at it).

Lol, what would I be defensive about? I'm not sure I know what you mean by that, could you explain?
He started the thread. Meta did you read the second parapgraph of mine? I said that I wasn't necessarily speaking to Vizzini in particular because I don't know him but I was speaking about things I see some newer moderators on totse doing in particular, thats all.
It just seems theres this attitude amongst some newer moderators. Things like.. just automatically thinking they're qualified to moderate any forum under the sun. Thinking their job is more important than it is. You and me Meta for example, you know that moderating is definitely not some kind of glorious job, its often more of a headache than anything else (though personally I enjoy it for the most part!).
Or some moderators if you can believe it, a few of them almost seem to feel very self important, thinking they're more important in the grand scheme of things than they are. I just think its a mistake to thin about this 'job' in that way. Many moderators, especially in the larger forums like SG run a very fine line of being 'the moderator', to being a laughing stock. I just mean that what they do is put under SO much scrutiny, theres no need to make it worse than it needs to be by weird attitudes about your 'job'.
I'm not trying to bash anyone or bring them now and I am not talking about VIZZINI what he said just reminded me of these things that I've meant to say for a while is all! :)

Re: Modding a different forum
Well, yeah, I am 'qualified', and I'm not really one of the new moderators so I still don't get what you are trying to say sambob, this thread wasn't really intended for your 'opinions' on the issue of choosing moderators... You take this 'job' way to seriously.
As far as qualification goes, since you brought it up... I have completed a four year degree in business, I run my own business, I have several investments across property, shares, ect. I make more money than 99% of people here, and know how and what to do with money.

Man, I didnt say you weren't qualified. I said I wasn't talking about you. And I'm sorry for hijacking your thread. I don't see what the big deal is.
Why are YOU being defensive? I don't have a problem with you man, I really apologise if something I said bothered you.

Re: Modding a different forum
I'm not being defensive, it is more the fact that you probably misconstrued my intentions - I don't want to mod 10 forums that I am not qualified in - I want to be mod of one forum I enjoy.
Anyway, I have decided I don't want to continue to mod Bad Ideas (contrary to my first post in the thread) so I would like to be removed as a mod.
If my services are wanted elsewhere that's fine, (I suggested which forum I am most qualified in) if not I am fine with being removed as a moderator completely.

Re: Modding a different forum
I'd say Vizzini is certainly qualified and I'd be happy to have him as my replacement in Money Money Money so I can focus my efforts more in NS&H. While I did ask for the forum to be created a couple of years ago, personally I've always been more interested in theoretical tools of finance and other topics that are rarely discussed if at all. I'm glad that someone is showing interest and I'd say he's one of the best guys for the job.

Wait... you mean it isnt?!
:(
I may have to re-think how I get my boyfriend to do things then, because
"damnit, I AM a moderator of totse and BY GOD YOU WILL GO AND MAKE ME A COFFEE!!" may not work for much longer then.

A mod of Oral Indulgences, and you're not making your own coffee?

Actually, I didn't my bad.
And it was meant to be tongue in cheek.

Re: Modding a different forum
I think this is a good thing. You shouldn't moderate a forum if you're sick of the topics within the forum. I believe that toraton would also be a good fit for Money Money Money. He has gotten himself a backing in finance and has a driving interest. I have a heavy grounding in finance and business, but it isn't American enough for that forum.
When I tired of Moving Pictures, I made sure that it went to someone that had an interest. That someone would have been napoleon_complex if I'd been thinking ahead, but Mandy is a great fit anywhere.
I don't know what sort of knowledge Vizzini has within finance, but passion for the content is the most important part.

Re: Modding a different forum
^^Me agree with Euda. Even if you're not the most knowledgeable person in the world about the topics your forum covers, passion and interest in the topic counts for alot. Not everything, but alot.
