When does "Cheating" start?
When they become physical? Maybe when they find someone else they like?
What if they break up with you... Just to date someone else? Is that cheating because they liked that person while they dated you?
Should they have brocken up with you when they decided they didn't like you... And not when they found someone else?
Totse, discuss. My friend is in a complicated situation. So, opinions would help.

Re: When does "Cheating" start?
I consider cheating to be anything physical or emotional with another person that you don't want whoever you're with to know about.. So, that can be a lot of things.

Re: When does "Cheating" start?
I take an almost biblical view on this one. Cheating starts the moment you look lustfully upon another. Simple.
The other acid test is 'would you tell your partner about it,' whatever it is? For example that you like going to a certain shop cos the girl there wears short tops and flirts a little with you and not because of the two-for-one offers on left handed 3/8ths widgets it does.

It's cheating when you are caught, before that it's just fun.

Re: When does "Cheating" start?
my view is similar to jackketch's.
if you wouldn't do it with your partner standing next to you, it's cheating.

to me that just seems unreasonable. when one sees a good looking person, naturally some thoughts are going to enter your head. is a person who is in an exlcusive relationship supposed to feel guilty about their human instincts EVERY time there happens to be an attractive person around, even when looking cant be avoided? i dont see how one could believe that and expect themselves and their partner to be able to follow it. if you truly do do it though then kudos to you. if i lived by that then i cheat on my girlfriend a hundred times a day, same with her on me.

Re: When does "Cheating" start?
I dunno. At the point it becomes physical, or more than a "crush." Like, i dont' care if my girl has a crush on a guy, but anything lasting more than a few days becomes more.

Re: When does "Cheating" start?
Depends.
For different people, it means different things. Some people are jealous, and consider talking to the nice young sales girl for too long to be cheating. Some hardened swingers may only consider it cheating if the guy cums in another girls anus (an act reserved for the sanctity of marriage...), or if the girl allows a guy to cum in her anus.
I believe it is possible to lust after someone and call it cheating, yet fuck someone and not be cheating. It all depends on the cheater's internal attitude, and how the person being cheated on feels.
Generally, if you feel guilty afterwards, you have cheated. If you have to sleep outside, you cheated. If your wife asks you to let her join in from now on, you are the luckyest cheater in the world.

Re: When does "Cheating" start?
As long as you let them know it's not cheating. The moment you want to keep your partner from knowing something that has to do with a connection between you and another person, though...

for me and my wife having sex outside our marriage does not necessarily mean that we are cheating. as far as we are concerned its only cheating if we both don't agree on the other person.
extremely open and honest communication is the key. maybe your friend can talk through her/his particular situation. it might not be easy though.

Same here dude - so long as we are both there, it's all good.
Communication is definitely the key.

Re: When does "Cheating" start?
It doesn't do to play the blame game. That being said, I would say that cheating begins when you would rather spend time with the other person than with your partner. When you wake up in the morning and think of the other person. When you do something or hear some news and it comes to mind that you should talk to them about it or tell them all about it. Basically, when you value someone more than your partner. To me, that's the basis of non-physical cheating. Physical cheating is far more obvious, it starts with foreplay and flirting.
Definitions and when things began doesn't much matter in most cases. The fact that it happen'd at all is usually enough.

Then every male (at least male, talking about what I know) cheats several times per day

Re: When does "Cheating" start?
To me cheating begins when things start to get physical. Personally if my gf wants to flirt, i let her go for it. I trust her enough to know shes just playing around just like she knows im playing around when i flirt with other girls. I guess in the end we both know that its each who we care about not whoever weve been flirting with.

Re: When does "Cheating" start?
^ What he said.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with flirting--it is part of human nature, and can be really fun--especially if you're in a healthy and committed relationship, it seems to me. There is no pressure to actually "score" with the person you're flirting with, you know it won't go anywhere, and it is just fun (not to mention flattering when someone else initiates it). I've been with the same person for almost five years now, and she and I both often flirt with members of the opposite sex. We both trust each other, and we both know that when it comes right down to it, neither of us would rather be with anyone else. Flirting (or even thinking "wow that woman over there looks hot in that outfit") is not cheating unless you have a very unhealthy relationship.

Re: When does "Cheating" start?
So, the consensus right now is... It's ok for your partner to be a tease, just as long as it doesn't go anywhere?
Eh, personally, I'm a romantic at heart, so my opinions on the subject are incredibly biased. I believe that once you found someone you "love" then there's no need to ever entertain anyone else besides them for the rest of your life, whether it be Human Nature or not. If you find yourself flirting or anything else that might be taken as cheating, etc. then maybe you should re-evaluate the person you're with.
That is why I started this thread. Because my opinion on the subject is somewhat "fairy tale" esque, making it pretty much... Impossible.
