Post too long?
I was trying to edit an old thread that I just stickied for S&A and it said I have 544 characters over the limit. And the limit's set at 1000. Is it possible to take away this limitation? At least for mods? I have another outline about birth control that's probably over the limit too, but it's informative. Luckily, the system has left the old threads alone, but what if I want to speak more than 1000 characters? I guess I could post in 2 different posts, but that's just silly.
Is this a solvable problem or do I just have to live with it?

Re: Post too long?
With a limit of 1,000 characters, there isn't much of a point to having a limit at all... If that makes sense. If someone were wanting to spam, 1,000 characters would be just as annoying as 2,000. So... I'd be in favor of removing it.

Re: Post too long?
I'm 100% for removing the limit.
I know I've written at least a few posts >1000 characters, and to not be able to do so, especially in, say, the technical forums, is more hindrance than it's worth, IMO.

Re: Post too long?
Yeah it's a bit annoying to write a guide type thing and have to split it into two posts.

Careful folks, we're in serious danger of achieving 100% agreement on this topic.

Re: Post too long?
I absolutely agree that mods should be exempted from the character count limitations. I understand the regulation is to prevent exceedingly long spam posts, but I think as moderators we, at least, can be trusted not to abuse the ability to create longer posts. I just had an argument in P:LRC where the posts I was creating were so long I twice had to split them into threes. Managing that proved to be exceedingly annoying.

Re: Post too long?
Actually I think the limit is 10,000 characters, not 1,000.

Re: Post too long?
Is it possible to merge two posts if their combined character count exceeds 1000?

Re: Post too long?
I agree with this. I'll add it to the list of things for Jeff to consider. I removed the character limit on my vbul because I ran into the exact same problem.

Scary. How many 1 megabyte posts would it take to crash your database?
Anyhow, I increased the limit from 10,000 characters to 50,000 characters.
