Question A simple Christian question...

If Jesus was put on this Earth by God to die for our sins, then why is Judas damned for turning him in?

Depends on what you believe. If you believe that God has a plan, then no, but it also raises the question about prayer. If God DOES have a plan, then prayer is completely useless.

However, if God does not have a plan, then he was under the influence of free will, and chose to betray Jesus. But without Judas, he would have never been crucified, and would not have died for people's sins.

BTW, the whole idea of Jesus as God's son is ridiculous to me.

Judas isn't damned. He was fulfilling his divine purpose. Jesus understood this, he just got scared. And jesus wasn't the son of god, jesus was the son of god the way you and I are children of god in the christian dogma. Fucking early christians voted that he should be viewed as divine, and the only way they could work that in was by making him a facet of the one god.

A more pressing question is why they call The Bible the good book. It's a bloody boring read, if you ask me.

Statements like this show why so many Christians have a perverted view of their own religion.

No one. I'm aware that you claim to be Buddhist.

I'm delightfully agnostic.
I just have a soft spot for buddhism, but I wouldn't classify myself as one.

I'm an agnostic too, well, an agnostic-atheist... why did you classify yourself as Buddhist in the faith poll then?

I think I did both? If not must have missed the agnostic box. if not its my closest affiliation in terms of organized religion and I misinterpreted the poll.

Yeah, you did. Agnosticism and Buddhism are compatible though. Buddhism's not really theistic and supposedly the Buddha laughed on his deathbed when his followers were calling him God.

Because Judas sold out Jesus for 30 silver?

Reading in depth about Judas shows you he was immoral, anyway. Stealing from the coinpurse comes to mind, for instance.

So, being this immoral person who had not really gone with Jesus' teachings, and dying without accepting Christ's sacrifice sealed his fate.

So it was Judas' intentions and not the act itself that was wrong? Had he known Jesus' purpose on this Earth and turned him in for that reason, would he still be seen as a bad person?

On the whole, I would have to say no. God isnt going to ask you to do something that he said is wrong. Selling out someone to be wrongfully executed is surely not righteous.

Still, you have said correctly that it is intentions that are wrong, not the actions. It is, however, actions that tend to carry from intentions.

Of course not. He would never ask a patriarch that will be the forefather of His religion to kill his own son just to test his obedience. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Judas wasn't damned for selling out on Jesus. He may not even be damned. Faith in Jesus = Heaven! Judas may have still had salvation before he killed himself. Actions are irrelevant to salvation.

But God didnt allow him to actually do it. Abraham would have sinned if he killed his son, but he didnt kill him.

You said this...

God isnt going to ask you to do something that he said is wrong.

And I said that God did ask someone, someone very important, to do something that He considers to be wrong. Whether God wanted Abraham to actually do it or not is a totally different issue.

Moron?? Someone must be on their monthly cycle. Probably ran out of Tab's to drink, causing them to throw a hissy fit.

Judas was not damned.
holy crap.
Dante got it twisted. Judas' suicide was a manifestation of his guilt. If you feel guilty about sinning its not really a sin anymore. Even in the judeochristian dogma there are no hard and fast rules for damnation and salvation god can damn and save as he wills, Judas' was fulfilling his role by god's will alone, he felt so bad about it that he took his life, meaning he was a somewhat decent person, somewhat decent people go to heaven.

That's easy. He isn't/wasn't/won't be.
