Default Can Mods try to refrain for the following...

Making posts in attempts to discredit other mods?

I mean there was a thread in here about mod etiquette not that long ago, and yet here I am having to make this request.

To name names I've seen sambob in Moving Pictures twice saying things he should have bit his tongue on at least

One being asking where the mods were in a dodgy thread - sure it shouldn't have been there but posting "where are the mods", what was the point of that exactly? besides planting a idea in the heads of people that the mods of that particular forum are doing a poor job?

The second being saying every mod has a problem with CarbonB - Just because you might have a problem with this particular person doesn't mean we all feel the same way. When mods have him making assumptions that they are too scared to say they don't like him to his face (in text :p) we can blame you for the inconvenience.

And Mr Happys post about me in B&M

All he does in here is flame Duckwarri0r and close threads about Duckwarri0r/made by Duckwarri0r/posted in by Duckwarri0r.

What the fuck? That was one hell off a stupidity leak on your part, completely and utterly wrong. For someone who I'm sure thinks highly of their intellect, that was a hell of a lot of lost ground.

Some mods here need to wisen the hell up methinks. I'm not telling you how to think but I am telling you not to tell others how to think. Give them the same courtesy I give you that perhaps you don't deserve....some of you :p

Differences of opinion are fine.

They only need to be leashed if a mod battle reaches epic proportions like what wikipedia says happened in the 90s.

Everytime I get into a heated discussion that involves me for more then say 3 posts of my own I think of that and try to wrap it up as to how I'm the better.

And I agree, I have differing opinions with mods all the time and have myself heard. There's never any hard feelings held by me afterwards though.

I do however think Mr Happy was totally out of his element in that instance though. Damn him Mad :p

Uh, that was a joke. You get in arguments with Ducky a lot, you even did it in that thread, that's all I was talking about. You're a good mod in there whenever anything needs to be done, of course I wouldn't want you demodded.

Maybe I should have used the little winking post icon or put a :p in there or something, but c'mon. There's a difference between an attack and a joke.

In defense of sambob, I don't think asking "where the are the mods?" is an attempt to discredit mods, but rather an honest question about where the hell the mods are, considering that spam thread had been up for days without any action.

Well the other flip side is that it highlights the fact authority isn't present giving potential spammers a green light for further activity.

What is he expecting anyone to say "oh they are away for a couple of days" ??

To me it was to make the mods out as being inactive...im not the one to judge that one but I just don't think regulars need another reason to dislike mods haha

I have absolutely no problem with Sambob or his posts. And basically, if he's saying something that goes against what you say, it's because he's right..

I've read his posts in Moving Pictures, and I find him very helpfull. When a poster asked about a certain Soviet based film, it was him who helped that poster out, no one else.
So if that's 'discrediting' another mod, then well, damn.

And as for CarbonB..He's an asshole. Full stop. The scary thing is he insults people so much and comes across as so much of a bully, other people start to try and imitate him to be like him.

At times, his spite and idiocy have become so intollerable I've simply given up on posting in a forum because he just fucks things up so badly.
And if I leave a forum due to him, who knows who many good posters with alot to offer the forum may have left because of him?

That's all well and good but I still have never said anything abou him in here. When that fat cunt reads that is he more likely to drop it or hold a grudge against all mods for apprantly talking behind his fucking huge back? haha ...exactly

What was stopping sambob (don't get me wrong, im looking like im hating on sambob here - but it just happened to have been him) sayyy coming in her and telling mandy or kate to get their asses into MP to clean it up or emailing them?
Just my stance, it's nothing I would have done and not something I'd want someone coming into B&M or GP while I'm at work or sick or something asking where the fuck I am implying I'm slacking off.

meh

I really don't think spammers are that prevalent in MP. I fail to see the big deal in asking "where are the mods?", let alone how that question somehow "discredits" either of the mods in that forum.

I don't even see how he would be giving regulars another reason to dislike mods(which I didn't even know was a problem to begin with...).

About antagonizes regulars of totse, I need only refer to a special thread I had made involving Infernal, CarbonB, and RedRaven over in anime. It's a perfect example of singling someone and holding a grudge.

I know I may have only urged things on by making it, but it saved many threads afterwards.

What thread in MP Tousersnake?
I've been busy the last 2 days and have only skimmed my forums.

On the subject of Moving Pictures and Sambob - I asked if you could have edited your title or even put a spoiler warning in your thread you made, sadly you chose to ignore me. But I DID have to edit another one of your posts in that thread - PLEASE DO NOT POST WHAT FUCKING CITY I LIVE IN. No personal info of mine is to be put on the boards by ANY mod that knows me personally.I'm having enough trouble keeping my personal life away from totse as it is.

Lawl and I agree with the carbonB thing - not all of us hate him, in fact I really enjoy a lot of his posts and hes rather good to talk to one on one.

EDIT: I just read the thread with CarbonB. Geezus christ sam, calm the down in there would you?

I'm not a fan of carbonB but I don't have a problem with the guy. And he is one of the few that when you, as a mod, 'slap him down' then he backs down, takes it with good grace and flies straight...for a bit at least.

Most people are affected by their physical traits. I can think of many posters that allow their physical traits to influence the quality of their posts. Many people are assholes and use physical traits as an excuse to act in the manner that they choose.

I think lowly of CarbonB, but I haven't ever really had an issue with his assholishness. totse would not shed a tear at his loss.

It's kind of hard not to think he's gay when every other threat he's told me involves inserting something into my ass or my mouth. The pictures I've seen show a fat, peanut shaped ugly little man posing pathetically in front of a mirror. If he's lost weight since then, good for him, but that doesn't make him a decent poster by any stretch.

If you think me calling him gay is old(which it isn't, it's actually quite accurate), how can you possibly like any of CarbonB's posts since in nearly every post he's calling someone a faggot?

I'm also surprised you like his posts since you always struck me as someone who is easily offended.

I don't know much about CarbonB except for his posts in Anime, where he goes out of his way to pick fights with people until the topic of the thread is lost in useless bickering. So, he basically destroys any thread he touches. I don't know why people haven't learned to ignore him.

This whole changing your username thing or using multiple accounts has always seemed uncool to me.

If you can't stand behind what you say, then you shouldn't say it. There are some exceptions, such as admins having other accounts to post from without attracting the attention their accounts seem to garner.

You should take this advice NC :)

Lol CarbonB and I don't agree with each other on most things at all, but we have enough respect for each other to let the other voice their opinions without there being a showdown.
Easily offended? Ha, shows how much you really don't know me ;) Maybe if you gave people a chance before judging them you could get better results (because you've certainly never extended the courtesy to me unless you've wanted something from me). I might seem like I jump in with all guns blazing but I try to only do it when I have a specific reason, and stuff to back me up if needed. You mustn't read a lot of my posts, nor have you bothered talking to me one on one - so until then, you can't pass a lot of judgement on me.

Perhaps to an inappropriate level sometimes, but the world needs people like him or we'd all be useless pussies. He's taken his fair share of jabs at me and generally he's made some pretty good points. I probably wouldn't like him in real life, but meh.

For the topic at hand, I'd be super pissed off if another mod came into Headshrinkers and flat out told me I was doing a shit job. Other mods of the forum, fine. Best to keep it private though.

Thats assuming he has a new account, which you have no proof of (and I don't have a clue either, I would find it strange if he does).

And what's wrong with making a new name? It's not against the rules unless you're using both at the same time (and then its an infraction, woop-de-shit)

Anyways, I don't think I passed a lot of judgement on you. From the few times I've talked to you, you seemed easily offended. Apparently that was inaccurate. No need to be so offended by it... :)

I simply mean that there are posters that use different usernames to post different types of things. I find that it can be an ugly tool in their hands. Someone can seem like a good person, but then you see a fuller picture of their personality when you learn about other accounts.

Picking a new username and "starting over" is something that I'm not fond of either. If you can't stand behind what you've said, then you shouldn't say it.

If you can't stand behind what you've said, then you shouldn't say it.

That's a beautiful sentence.

My my my, you need to write novels man, lots and lots of novels. Romance novels, maybe?

Now, for my opinion on the threads titles:

Unless you're critiquing a mods ability to do their job blatantly in a public forum, there shouldn't be any particular rules or mandates about how we interact. We're the administrative wing of a large public community which we are members of. Any regular has the right to critique, break down, and voice their opinions about anything, including others. And so do we.

That said, I think there's certain things that are just in really bad taste or some things that just plain break the rules. Pestering, spamming or otherwise fucking up the system should also be dealt with evenly between regulars and mods. We're mods because we've shown something more than just running around being total buttfucks, getting mad over dick size, but let's not go and say you can't voice your opinion on other mods, mmm kay? We aren't some guild, frat or illuminati here... or are we?

Yikes!

Well, that's just what I think. As always, feel free to disregard if necessary.

There goes cense being all logical and shit again. Mad

I don't see why we should have to hide every little disagreement, either. I don't want to hold my tongue if I disagree with anyone, even another mod. And I've never seen it as a problem to argue a bit when it's needed, as long as it doesn't turn into stupid name-calling. And it's sad that it does so often. I've met people with bad tempers in person, but it's almost funny how angry some people can get at text on a screen.

Obviously we shouldn't be shit-flinging like babies on the public forums, but it shouldn't really get to that point in here or on IRC either, in my opinion. If we can't be reasonable when arguing a point, and stay calm, then we shouldn't be on Totse, let alone be in charge of the place. :p

So.. I dunno. I don't think it's good to flame the crap out of each other, but on a website like Totse, I'm certainly not going to keep my opinions to myself, even if that means disagreeing with a mod... In public! EEK!

That being said, I don't agree with it. I'd rather there be some cohesiveness and a "united front" as Zok once talked about, but there's just too many moderators now to have any sort of community among us. I say we go back to 30 mods. =D

I don't have problem with CarbonB, although he is an ass, he still is quite a character and does bring up good points in certain discussions. Then also flames like hell, but come on, that's just Totse...

Lately it feels like there is so much drama up in our moderator domain. Seriously, what the fuck!?

I think it's the entire Vb thing, posting went up, so did our activities, so do complaints about them.

You can cut mods all you want, but the BB-moderation cannot be replaced, mods have been designated by their predecessors for quite some time now, me being the last one after having been passed over once. Goes to show how long somebody should at least attend before qualifying.

Sounds like that episode of the Simpsons when the Germans take over the power plant "Well they can't fire me!! ... why not? ... *silence* "

Or when everyone is in the bomb shelter away from Barts comet saying why they need to live

:p

How about instead of this rego date silliness people that mod then more then one forum can stay, the rest get the arse? :p

I've been conducting a 10 + year old study about how Simpson episodes can be tied into ANY conversation in life and make sense.

When mods have him making assumptions that they are too scared to say they don't like him to his face (in text ) we can blame you for the inconvenience.

I don't think anyone but you thought I was trying to 'discredit' the mods, I was asking a legitimate question. And I wasn't the only person in the thread to say so.

Second, in reference to CarbonB... I don't think anyone (but you) assumed that I litereally meant every single moderator on totse.com. But every time I have seen CarbonB mentioned in this particular forum, several mods chime in with a "I cant stand that guy!" type comment. If you seriously think that CarbonB thinks that moderators are 'scared' to say they don't like him, because of something I said, then you are an IDIOT. For fucks sake, this is totse.

If you have something to say to ME, then say it, this thread seems addressed 100% to me, so for someone complaining about me trashing moderators in public (which I didnt even do, I just asked a question.. and I didnt even use a question mark!), why are you posting an entire thread about it?

Use your brain man, do I have a history of causing problems for other moderators in their forums? No, I try to help other moderators out as much as I can, and in relation to that thread... the problem STILL hasnt been solved as the thread was only CLOSED (and it seems to me that in the case of VISUAL spam, closing a thread doesnt really prevent it from being seen).

I'm sorry I missed this entire thread, but I dont check this forum that often. Let me just say this though:

If we as moderators can't even publicly disagree with other moderators, how can we actually interact with them?? Napoleon_Complex and I argue all of the time, so do Jive Talka and I. By saying that totse moderators shouldn't talk about matters of POLICY in public, we are basically saying that REGULARS have no say in this policy. Yes i know, totse is not a democracy, but last time I checked, we LISTEN to regulars. So if they can't see us discuss things in public (and yes this includes disagreeing), they'd might as well not get a say in things at all.

I agree moderators shouldn't go all "You shouldn't be a fucking mod rawr!!" to each other, but are totse internal politics REALLY that complicated that users are going to lose respect for moderators 'authority' just because we disagree with each other?

And just to throw my hat into the ring as well on the CarbonB thing, I think he might be gay. He seems to have an OBSESSION with 'gay acts' (such as male on male anal sex, oral sex, etc etc). I am not INSULTING him as I don't think theres anything wrong with being gay, but just thought I'd give my input.

PLEASE DO NOT POST WHAT FUCKING CITY I LIVE IN.

What is this about? Are you fucking kidding me? How could I post what city you live in? By "How" I mean,, I DONT KNOW FUCKING CITY YOU LIVE IN GOD DAMN IT. Seriously what the HELL are you talking about?

This is the complete contents of that post:
You don't get HBO in New Zealand? I dont understand this. People watch HBO shows live all over the world on the networks that carry them, and I know for a fact they watch it live in New Zealand, why not where you live?

I fail to see how saying you live in NEW ZEALAND constitutes personal info considering it SAYS YOU LIVE IN NEW ZEALAND IN YOUR FUCKING PROFILE.

I dont know why you edited that post, but you DID NOT remove anything from it, so I don't know what the hell you're complaining about.

You do not have ANY business MAKING UP SOMETHING as serious as me posting personal info about you. I know you're a little psycho and everything but there is NO NEED for that kind of thing, come on if you have a problem with what I said or whatever, then you should tell me, there is no conceivable reason I can think of for claiming I posted personal info about you.

And he is one of the few that when you, as a mod, 'slap him down' then he backs down, takes it with good grace and flies straight...for a bit at least.

True, we listen to regulars when they make suggestions - that's the whole point of SB. That's not to say that they should see us discussing policy.

We're not only not a democracy, we're also not an open government of any sort. We need to present as unified a front as we can. Because, like sharks with blood, many will jump on any perceived dissension within our ranks and would try to exploit it too disrupt things.

Granted this sounds a tad paranoid, but for all that it has happened in the past.

Hmm maybe we had a misunderstanding. I said Wellington, because I have two friends that I met on an exchange trip who live in Wellington who get HBO. I wasn't referring to you. I really had no idea thats where you are. I really couldn't divulge where you live specifically because I don't have the foggiest idea anymore. Sorry for overreacting!!

Uh yeah I didn t really think it through that much. I'm just not sure I buy the whole "if the users see the moderators as not unified, they will cause problems" thing. In terms of behavioral dynamics in response to moderators actions, I just dont think that totse is that complex.

Meta's definitely right. I've seen it happen both on Totse and on other forums I've moderated--users will exploit perceived divisions between moderators and will try to play one mod against another. Even if they're not doing it on purpose, it just creates more problems in the long run to allow it to happen. Disagreements with other staff should be voiced privately, discussed reasonably, and if a change/retraction is made, it should come from the entire staff.

Could yo uguys give me an example of all of this? I just mean, I've been on totse longer than both of you and I've never seen that actually happen. Maybe it happens in SG, but the people in SG have no respect for moderators or anything else anyway, its a ocmplete shit forum. Moving Pictures is not the same type of situation.

Regardless, I'm not going to agree to never disagree with a moderator, or discuss policy with one in front of regulars, especially not in good forums like Moving Pictures, or say the forums I moderate.

Also, who says that disagreeing with a moderator is division? Having a big argument, sure. But just saying "where are the mods", or saying "I dsagree with your decision here, this is why - what does everyone else think?", does not show division in any way.

Exactly.

I didn't see the post you guys are talking about in Moving Pictures, but unless there's a hell of a lot more to it, I don't see the point in even mentioning it. Not a big deal at all.

Yes it was SG I was referring to, and of course not all the forums are filled with such as populate it either.

One example, though, is the shit that went down after Fullcircle went on a spree of attacks on me, not just how I mod but some very uncalled for personal attacks. His goal was to get people in SG to try and make my life difficult - and he succeeded to a point.

That was an extreme example though.

Thats because its a four word post, just "where are the mods"

Well I think thats an entirely different example. A SPREE of anything like that is bad news for ANY user. But that guy was a bad mod anyway...
