Delete request from user
Hey Zok/acidmelt/MLoR, I'm sorry if this sounds all jumbled or if I've done this wrong, but I haven't done it before.
I've had a message from user don_stracci who needs his totse account deleted, he said he has been blackmailed by people he knows in person with information he has posted on the site, and is worried about his safety. He wouldn't go into specifics about the matter, but put his feelings across very clearly that he cannot have this account anymore.
I am not sure of the process of this, but his email is
sunny_flinn@hotmail.com
I can pass on information to him through MSN if needed,
Abi

Re: Delete request from user
From what I understand, the posts would have to be deleted one by one. Other than that, there's nothing that I know of that can be done. Note "I", others may know something else.

If you search all posts by a user, to the right of each one there's a little tick-box. At the top, next to the "showing posts 1-25 of x" text, there's a box to select all posts, and then at the bottom in the Moderation drop-down menu you can select "delete posts". I've not used it myself, but could it maybe be used to delete all of a user's posts in one go?

I've noticed that, too, but I've also never used it. I also noticed that you can only select posts that were posted in your forum. So, I guess it would take a Super Mod to delete everything in one fell swoop. Also, if it were to be used, we'd have to make sure that only their posts are deleted, not the threads they started. Like Jeff said, deleting their threads would delete other user's posts, as well.

Re: Delete request from user
^ Good points.
And I think that that is why the discussion always boils down to "is a self-destruct button necessary?".
While yes, I can, and I think we all can, sympathize with someone forced into a position where deleting all of their posts and their entire history is a logical course of action, but I think we can all also understand that people tend to have gotten themselves in that mess, and they should have realized that posting certain information on a public forum was just bad judgment, and that the Totse community as a whole should not be made to suffer (loss of posts, loss of history) because of the oversight of one.
But that's a discussion for another thread (and by golly, there already is one! ;))
But I think we've all misinterpreted the OP.
When I read the request, I read it as don_stracci wishing to have his account deleted. I don't read that as being anything like "please delete all of my posts" or anything. I would take the request to mean simply deleting the user account. Past posts are past posts, and he can't get rid of what's been said, especially since he's already being blackmailed with it. I understand the request to be a "take away my account so that things like this don't happen again in the future".
But that's just my interpretation, and I may be completely wrong.

Re: Delete request from user
A self destruct button would be awesome, even if it *does* delete other posters posts. For this very reason.
I'm sure this is a very frightening unpleasant time for the poster who's requested his stuff to be deleted. It's sad that he's being forced to leave totse, but hopefully if someone can help he wont leave with bitter taste in mouth and hatred in heart.
