The Devil is a girl I was involved with last year. She's amazing, I fell head over heals for this girl. She seemed to like me. We went out, it went amazingly. When we left my place the next day she looked... happy, that's the only word for it, genuinely happy. The next time I saw her she acted strangely. I tried talking to her quite a few times over the next two weeks and she was evasive. Eventually it turned out she had a boyfriend that she'd never mentioned. I'll spare you the details, but the repercussions were far reaching. Those consequences, and the seeming innocence with which she caused them, are why I'm calling her the Devil.

I got a message from her a few hours ago, inviting me to her 20th birthday celebrations. Apparently she'd really like to see me. Now I'm wondering whether I should go. She messed with my head pretty bad. My heart rate did a pretty solid jump when I got the message.

I don't know whether I'd embrace her or want to break her.

I think she has either broken up with her boyfriend, or she has invited you (being a somewhat evil bitch) to play mind games with you. You know what some of them can be like :P. I dunno, it sounds kind of like she really liked you and didn't want to tell you she had a boyfriend because she wanted to see where things would go with you. Then felt guilty for cheating and had a hard time deciding what to do. I could be way off here, but that's the feeling I get from what you wrote.

So if she's inviting you to a birthday party, she's probably broken up with her boyfriend.

Or, she's playing games, in which case you should just steer clear. Either way, go to the party, see what's what. If she has a boyfriend you can stay and hook up with her best friend in front of her or something. Then don't talk to her again.
